Little Leaps Linky – 12/5

Little Leaps Linky – 12/5

Welcome to the next instalment in the Little Leaps Linky – recording and celebrating our children’s milestones, accomplishments and developmental leaps.

In case you missed it, Little Leaps is now going to be running weekly. There was a bit of confusion about when it was open and closed, so hopefully this will make it much simpler.

The Little Leaps Linky will now open every Friday at 5am and close at midnight the following Thursday.

My favourite post from last week was from A Blonde & a Baby – who shared the celebrations from her daughter turning three. The room and her balloon and gifts looked fantastic. She is a lucky girl!!

What have your little ones been up to this week? I look forward to reading your posts! 🙂

Neve

Tomorrow my little baby girl turns 7 months old. SEVEN MONTHS!! – I am going to use the cliché again, but I honestly don’t know where the time has gone. Here’s the changes we’ve been witnessing this week!

Sitting up – Neve is now much more confident sitting up and loses her balance far less often than before. Her big sister loves sitting next to her, and will always have an arm out ready to scoop her back up if she falls – it is very sweet. There is something pretty special about seeing your two daughters sitting together and playing or having a ‘chat’. It’s a pretty priceless feeling.

Every day she is becoming more and more vocal, with a pretty constant babble and Dadda as a fairly regular phrase. I have been madly trying to teach her to say Mum, and whilst she watches my mouth intently she hasn’t managed to get the mmmm sound out yet, although she is trying to move her mouth in the right way bless her!

Weaning is still proving to be quite challenging, in that just like her sister she refuses to open her mouth very much at all! I have been giving her a combination of baby led foods (such as small pieces of toast, carrot, broccoli and healthy snacks) as well as pureed veg and fruit. Fruit is definitely her favourite (no surprise there), and whilst she knows what she needs to do with handheld foods, she still isn’t keen on having anything lumpy in her mouth (Cue lots of gagging and heaving!) This is NOT fun to watch as an emetophobic!

The nursery renovation project is well underway, and soon Neve will be moving into her own room. Whilst I will miss having her lying next to me, I am hoping she will sleep better away from the smell of Mummy’s breast milk and Daddy’s snoring!!

Erin

This week, Erin had a very exciting week in that her new big girl bed arrived, the one she had earned with her reward chart over the last few months.

She was so super excited when it arrived that literally as soon as she saw it (at about 5.15pm) she exclaimed that she was “A little bit tired” and asked if she could go to bed. It was really endearing and seeing her all tucked up in a bed that suddenly looked HUGE was a lovely sight. The first night she was a little bit disorientated and woke a few times, asking for a cuddle, a wee, a drink, and then lastly “to tell me a secret”. LOL – you have to admire her approach! I’ll be sharing a tour of Erin’s new room too once it’s finished, as I know how much people like to have a nose! 🙂

Erin also has a new visitor in her bedroom in the form of a little fairy, who she writes to and draws pictures for. This is another great idea for encouraging good behaviour, and the threat of telling the Fairy if she doesn’t do what she’s told is usually enough to make her snap out of it! 🙂

Erin’s bedroom has now become my favourite room in our house, and I am actually blogging from her bed at the moment (Ssshhh don’t tell her!)

Sitting Up

Over the last week, it is like someone has literally found Neve’s fast forward button and pressed it – she had developed so quickly over the last week! She is now able to sit completely unaided, after having a few weeks of wobbling up and down like a weeble. It is so lovely to see her sit on the carpet next to her sister, and she seems genuinely excited to be able to sit and play. We still have the odd wobbly moment, but the difference in how strong she has become is noteable!

She has also massively found her voice, and we have had what appears to be her first word. Of course its DaDa. What else would it be?! I could go off here on a grumble about how I had her inside me for 9 months and this is how she repays me… but I won’t! 🙂 She says DaDa a lot now, and will often roll around on the carpet pulling at her socks whilst literally shouting DA DA DA DA DA – there is definitely no missing that she’s in the room – her voice carries just like her sisters!

Our weaning journey is slow, but she is finally starting to accept the fact that I am not trying to poison her, and becoming a little more open to trying different foods. Today we had some strawberry! After a mixed reception initially, it became a real hit – I have been given puree and actual food pieces at the same time – in the hope she will learn what food looks like whilst exploring new tastes! I still find the weaning stage a little stressful, but we will get there!

Sitting Pretty

This week we took Erin with us for afternoon tea to celebrate her Nannies birthday. We ordered Erin her very own children’s afternoon tea and she was so well behaved! I think she felt super grown up to have her own cup and saucer (with milk inside!) and her own little tower of cheese sandwiches and yummy cakes.

I had a bit of a moment when looking back at the photographs we took on the day. You don’t notice them changing every day, but it suddenly became apparent just how much Erin has grown up over the last 6 months since Neve was born. She looks like a proper little lady in these pics and I am so so proud of her.

I am also a little terrified of how beautiful she is becoming, because I know that in 9 years time I will have a teenage Erin in my home. I am so not ready for that!!!

What milestones / developments / challenges have your little ones had this week?

Neve’s Half Birthday

I can hardly believe I am writing this, the time has gone so fast. My baby girl, my second daughter and the little lady who completed our family turned 6 months old this week. That half a year appears to have passed by in the blink of an eye, and I can’t believe I am over half way through my maternity leave already. That said, my 3 week stay in the hospital feels like a lifetime ago, and Neve has blended into our family so well that I simply cannot imagine life without her.

She has made some huge developmental leaps over the last few weeks. Here are just a few!

Rolling

Neve has generally been a fairly laid back character and to date hadn’t done that much ‘movement’ apart from thrashing her legs around when lying on her back. Over the last week, she has learnt to grab her feet and pull her own socks off (her new favourite game), and hold on to her feet whilst rocking from side to side. She loves playing on the play mat and is really focusing on reaching out and grabbing her toys.

Eating

Our weaning journey has now begun, albeit very slowly. I am a bit of a tentative weaner so we have just started her off with a few simple tastes so far. At the moment, she seems quite confused by the process, and hasn’t seemed particularly happy about any of the flavours we have offered her. It’s a big change from the breast milk only diet she is used to, so I’m not going to rush her into anything. She seems super happy sat in her high chair though and very proud of herself when sat at the same height as us! 🙂 I am praying she beings to enjoy the foods we offer her over the next few weeks – we will be doing a combination of puree and baby led weaning.

Sleep

Probably the less said about this the better, as her sleep is still fairly horrific. She hasn’t been quite right on the sleep front since her short stay in hospital, but fingers crossed this is just a short term phase. Thank god for #nightfeednatter on Twitter!

Erin’s Big Girl Bed

Those of you who read the blog regularly will know that we recently implemented a Reward Chart for Erin, with the aim of encouraging her to stay in her own room all night without calling for Daddy to sleep on the floor. Well this week after just over a month, Erin reached the last step on her chart and earned her reward – her very own cabin bed for her bedroom. She was so super excited.

To say well done, we took her to out for lunch and to our local park, before going to look at the options in a bed showroom. We chose a fantastic cabin bed with a ladder, under bed desk and plenty of storage. It was perfect.

Erin was more concerned about the Frozen duvet cover that was on one of the other beds in the showroom, and couldn’t get her head around the fact that all the beds could have whatever bedding she liked.

We are now entering the “Project Nursery” phase, clearing out the box room for Neve’s. When Erin’s big girl bed arrives in a few weeks time, Neve will have Erin’s cot bed. We have a LOT of work to do, but Erin is super excited to be getting involved, choosing her own carpet and wall colours.

I feel stupidly emotional about Erin moving into a single bed as it feels like another step away from her baby years. That said, she was a little jealous of her sister’s Gro Bag this evening so the inner baby is still there somewhere!! 🙂 She is very Pro Daddy at the moment, and loves nothing more than a pre bed time snuggle!

Overall, we’ve had a great couple of weeks, and the girls are growing up fast!

What leaps have your little ones made recently? I’d love to read all about them! 🙂
