When we renovated our garden in 2015, people joked that the play area we created was good enough to hire out for alternative children’s parties, and that we could have invited the entire nursery round and still had room for them all. I have to admit they were probably right, our garden is huge, and the play area we created is pretty substantial for the one child (now two) that are living in our home! That said, our garden has become the ultimate party garden, and I am so chuffed that Spring is on it’s way so that we can look forward to barbeque season. This weekend has been a little taste of the sunshine to come and simply I can not wait!

In all seriousness though, can your garden make you money?

One of my neighbours has found a fantastic way of doing just that – drive past her house in Spring, and her front lawn is literally full of seedlings and bedding plants ready to purchase. Her house has gained a somewhat mini celebrity status in my home town, with people driving to her house from neighbouring regions of Solihull to check out her impressive display. She has very green fingers, and loves to grow her own, but quickly identified she could make a bob or two in the process!

Living in a semi-rural location, I also pass a number of properties who sell freshly laid eggs outside their home, with trust boxes so people can simply pay and go on their way past.

Rattan Direct recently shared an infographic outlining various ways in which you can aim to make money from your garden – some are more straight forward than others!

It’s unlikely that I ever would, but we are actually banned from owning livestock on our property (its in the deeds!). Before the house was built, my road actually housed a pig farm, and so when the land was sold it was done so on the condition that no pigs could be owned by any occupant. Bizarre but true!

As for the art classes, I think my neighbour would have a field day if he saw some bare buttocks when he popped his head over the garden fence!!

Despite the range of options available, I can’t see our garden making me my fortunes any time soon. For me however, after living in a flat for most of my adult life, having a space of our own where the kids can play is priceless!
