Today’s the day we hit the 20 week mark. Half way through our 2nd pregnancy, or if I’m anything like I was with Erin, another 22 weeks to go ;). This is the week we find out our gender results too and we are going for a slightly American theme – a gender cake reveal. This may seem a little cheesy or unorthodox, but there are a few reasons we want to do this.

Firstly, it seems like a fun idea! We wanted to be able to share the news with friends and family, and there was something pretty special about us all finding out at the same time (with one exception – see later!). We’re having a Chinese takeway on Bank Holiday Monday, and inviting parents and siblings to come and join us as we learn the news – including skyping my other half’s brother in London.

20weeks

Secondly, and most personal to me, is that I wanted my dad to be heavily involved. My mum was there when my daughter was born in 2013, and we sadly lost her to breast cancer in 2014, just after my daughter’s first birthday. Having mum witness the arrival of my first born was the best gift I ever gave her, and whilst I can’t match that with my father (clearly that would be weird!!) I thought giving him the chance to learn our 2nd born’s gender before we do would be really special for him. It just so happens he is also an excellent baker and cook, and therefore will enjoy the process of baking the cake and preparing it for us. He will be so proud –  we keep jesting that the only people who will know are Graham and God (in that order!!) 🙂

I’m partly excited and partly terrified. I have no preference this time around (first time I secretly wanted a girl!). Erin however is CONVINCED we are having a girl – talking to my bump and saying its a “girl baby”. I tried to her explain to her the other day that it may be a boy and she simply replied “no silly, it’s a girl!!!”. We may have some convincing to do if the sponge is blue!!!

In the meantime, we are reading lots of books – having been to the library and collected 8 books about bumps, babies and new arrivals. She enjoys ‘reading’ them with me, and seems to be getting a clearer understanding of what happens when baby comes home, and that she will be Mummy’s little helper!

I’m feeling less tired, and less sick, despite seeing my dinner again as a *hopefully* one off on Saturday night. Who ever called it morning sickness clearly must have been having a timing issue, as my body seems to have them the wrong way around!

I can feel baby kick, and it’s strange having those feelings all over again. You kind of forget what it feels like have something living inside of you! Mike can’t feel the movement yet, but I am hoping he will soon.

All being well we will share out gender news next week – however I’m still convinced baby is going to be ‘challenging’ and keep its legs crossed! Based on the last two scans we’ve had – this baby seems to be a tad camera shy!!! 🙂

Keep you informed!
