Something exciting is coming….. Enchanted Events.

My favourite subject when I was a child was history. I used to love learning all the stories and events of times gone by, and was fascinated by the outfits, the buildings and how different life was for the world we live in today. I went on a number of trips to historical locations with my school, and to this day, I still feel there is no better way to bring history to life than to stand on the spot where it actually happened.

Now with two children of my own, I love taking the girls to explore a little piece of history, and we are lucky enough to live in a central UK location with a wealth of history on our doorstep.

Kenilworth Castle Grounds and Family

This weekend whilst the sun was shining we took the girls along to Kenilworth Castle, an English Heritage site in Warwickshire. I hadn’t been to Kenilworth Castle since I was a child, but the minute we pulled up at the car park and saw the surly heights of castle grounds arching over us, the memories all came flooding back.

Kenilworth Castle Grounds

Kenilworth Castle has a huge 900 year history, and Erin loved climbing the stairs to the castle tower windows – the very tower that was built to woo Queen Elizabeth I! She enjoyed looking out over the pretty epic views below, before exploring the Elizabethan Garden as if she were a Tudor Queen herself!

English Heritage are a registered charity, and care for over 400 historical buildings, monuments and sites across the UK, including Stonehenge and Hadrian’s wall. Their sites span 6 different millennia, and have everything to help your child’s imagination run wild, from palaces, castles, abbeys, roman forts and deserted medieval villages.

This winter, from the 15th – 23rd December, something extra special is coming to six English Heritage sites across the UK – Enchanted Events. These unique events will bathe six historic English Heritage venues in dramatic illumination;  with lanterns, fairy lights and special surprises to magically transport you into the past. With traditional fairgrounds, mince pies and mulled wine, there really is something for everyone, and Enchanted Events are something the whole family can enjoy.

Kenilworth Castle Enchanted Events

I am already excited about returning to Kenilworth Castle in December – reliving the romance of Queen Elizabeth I and Robert Dudley and following streams of festive lights from the Great Hall to the Mistletoe Garden.

The other Enchanted Events venues are Osborne in the Isle of Wight, Audley End House in Essex, Eltham Palace in London, Brodsworth Hall in South Yorkshire and Belsay Hall in Northumberland.
