Orla Kiely Grobag Review

Ever since we had our first child, Erin, back in 2013, we have been HUGE fans of The Gro Company’s products. Neve is now 5 months old, and recently transitioned into a Grobag after using the Gro Snug when we came home from hospital. Originally Neve really liked to be swaddled, but after using the two step transition process from the Gro Snug, she is now happy to sleep with her arms out in that adorable ‘arms in the air slumber’! 🙂

We have always used the Original Grobags and quite frankly, the copy cats do not even come close for quality.

We are also massive fans of Orla Kiely, so I was chuffed to bits when I heard that The Gro Company were doing a collaboration on some stunning Grobag designs. When Erin was 2, we had one of The Gro Company’s previous collaborations with Anorak (the Bouncing Bunnies design) and absolutely loved it.

There are a variety of Orla Kiely designs to chose from  including Apple, Bird and Boats, and the more recent arrivals of the Martian, Sausage Dog and Daisy. We selected the Orla Kiely Birds Travel Gro Bag.

About The Product

As with all of the Gro Company’s Grobag designs, the Orla Kiely Gro Bag in size 0-6 months can be used from birth, featuring small press studs under the arms for younger babies, to ensure they don’t pull their arms back in to the bag or get themselves into a pickle!

Grobag has worked closely with The Lullaby Trust to promote Safer Sleep for babies, and each Grobag comes with a free nursery thermometer and guide of what to wear to ensure you child sleeps safely and doesn’t overheat.

They are available in a range of sizes and tog ratings (including 1 tog for Summer months and 2.5 tog for Winter months) and prices start at £34.99.

You can see the full range at The Gro Store.

Our Experience

The Orla Kiely Gro Bag designs are really striking. They are modern and bold, with repeating patterns across the entire design. I was really pleased when ours arrive – I love the feminine yet non ‘girly’ feel to the Apple design, and felt that it would go really well with the lime green colouring we have in Neve’s nursery. There is also a subtle Orla Kiely logo to the nape of the neck.

We chose a 2.5 tog Grobag and were pleased at how snuggly and warm it felt to the touch.

We had never used a travel Grobag before but are now wondering why we never had one with our eldest! They are an absolute godsend!!

The travel Grobag’s feature a very clever double front zip and pocket at the back of the bag, enabling the bag to be used with a five point harness system. This means if you are due to travel with your child overnight, or they are likely to fall asleep in the car, you can put them in the Grobag first, then thread through the harness to ensure your child is safely secured within their carseat, whilst at the same time being cosy and comfortable. We are reminded all the time about the dangers of using winter coats and car seats, and the travel Grobags really help overcome this problem.

We have really made use of the travel feature of the Orla Kiely design – last night Neve fell asleep in the car on the way back from my Mother in Laws, and I was able to transition her into her cot without waking her, keeping her warm and content in the Grobag the entire time! 🙂

As with other Grobags we have had, the zips are protected and do not touch your child’s skin and there is a small flap of material at the neck to ensure that babies chin isn’t in contact with the metal parts.

Night time nappy changes are really easy – you can simply unzip the bag at the bottom and pop their legs out, whilst keeping the rest of her body warm.

Overall, I really love this Orla Kiely Grobag, and am tempted to treat myself to a few of the other designs as I love how they look in the nursery!  I can also sleep safe in the knowledge that she wont get cold or kick blankets off during the night. This is particularly important now the nights are getting colder.
