Around 5 years ago, my best friend in the entire universe moved to the other side of the world. Living on the opposite side of the planet to someone who you have known since you were 11 is really really tough, and although we skype and face time regularly, there is nothing like seeing each other face to face. Now that she has welcomed her first baby boy into the world, I am even more desperate to save those pennies and take our family on a trip to visit her, despite the thought of a 24 hour commute with two young children making me feel somewhat terrified at the prospect!

Having lived in Perth for some time now, Lisa has given me some great inspiration and ideas to help create my Perth Wishlist, including some of the amazing places and landmarks to visit when we finally get to go out and see her.  With the help of her advice, and some of the fab Groupon deals and experiences, I am hoping that when we finally arrive I can tick these and a few others of my bucket list.

Pinaccles Desert

Around 2 hours from central Perth, is the beautiful and somewhat magical Pinaccles Dessert located in Numberg National Park; a huge open plain of sand and limestone pillars ranging in size from less than a foot to over 3 metres high. According to my research – this stunning attraction was formed from the calcification of ancient forests and has an almost lunar / moon like appearance that I know the girls would love.

Not only is this one of Australia’s most stunning natural playgrounds for the girls to run around and explore, but a place to get away from the bustle of the city and enjoy a calm and peaceful afternoon in the beauty of this mysterious tourist attraction. I would love visit just as the sun is setting over the city and experience the kind of views that you just don’t find here in the UK. With my reputation for being a little snap happy, this kind of location is a photographer’s dream.

Rottnest Island

Whenever Lisa has talked about getting the boat over to Rottnest Island, I have always felt an insane amount of jealously! Home to some of the finest beaches and bays in the world – what an awesome way to spend the weekend. With stunning walking trails, gloriously white sandy beaches, bright blue ocean, bike rides, marine life and snorkelling, I can imagine that once there, we will never want to leave.

Rottnest Island is also home to the Quokka lovingly described as one of the happiest animals on earth – and you can absolutely see why! Who wouldn’t want to get a selfie with this little guy!!!

Perth Zoo

I have always wanted to get up close and personal with some of Australia’s’ beautiful creatures; in particular the Koala and the Kangaroo. Perth Zoo includes bush walks to see both of these close up, as well as offering close encounter experiences that I know both I and the girls would absolutely love.

Kings Park and the Swan River

A free day out, Kings Park is one of the largest inner city parks in the world, and comprises of over 400 hectres of parkland and botanical gardens along with the opportunity to visit the stunning historical war memorial to remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. With amazing views over Perth City and Swan River, picturesque picnic spots and a number of excellent playgrounds perfect for the girls, this will be the perfect place to lap up the sunshine and enjoy catching up with old friends.

Dolphin Watching in Mandurah

I have always found dolphins somewhat fascinating, and as much as I am not totally comfortable with my sea legs, I love the idea of taking a cruise in Mandurah to spot some dolphins up close and personal. Not only are these cruises a great way to spot the dolphins in their natural habitat but also an excellent opportunity see some of the stunning properties along the coast lines and waterways – oh how the other half live!! 🙂

If you’ve been to Perth recently, I’d love to know your must see locations!
