Now the schools have broken up, the girls and I are looking forward to some much needed family time; but for many parents across the UK, myself included, the six week holidays are also going to be quite the juggle!

We love having a bit of chilled out TV time in our afternoons, so it’s always great to hear about new TV series aimed specifically at preschoolers that offer both entertainment and educational benefits too. Kangaroo Beach is just that – a brand new TV series that has hit our screens at Nick Jr. from this week! We were lucky enough to check out some episodes early – here’s what you need to know!

What is Kangaroo Beach?

Kangaroo Beach is an animated surf-safety series featuring 26 episodes, each of which are just 11 minutes long. Aimed specifically at preschoolers and their families, Kangaroo Beach is produced by Cheeky Little Media and created by Tim Bain, who has also written for PJ Masks, Go Jetters, Bluey, Fireman Sam and Bob the Builder.

Kangaroo Beach features four young animal friends, Pounce, Gemma, Neville and Frizzy, who love spending an action-packed summer at the spectacular Kangaroo Beach, where they are training as junior cadets with their lifeguard heroes. When an emergency breaks out, the cadets step up to help keep the water safe.

What we loved about Kangaroo Beach

We were lucky enough to watch two of the episodes of Kangaroo Beach early and Neve really enjoyed them!

With a really catchy theme tune; the episodes caught Neve’s attention almost immediately and with the animations having a similar feel to some of her other favourite shows, Kangaroo Beach felt instantly familiar.

The characters Pounce, Gemma, Neville and Frizzy are suer cute and have a lovely friendship where they support and reassure each other. Each episode comes with a fun story about the teams’ adventures whilst they are training to be a Junior cadet.

As a parent, I loved the educational messages and water safety advice (that is accredited by the Swimming Teachers Association – the UK’s reputable water safety charity), but also the fact that it covered some health and wellbeing elements too, including what to do when you panic and how to stay calm in the water.

The purpose of the show is to inspire swimmers to think first, stay safe and enjoy their time in the water.

The second episode we watched was actually so familiar – a situation where Frizzy didn’t listen properly to a grown up and then got herself in trouble!  Having experienced a very scary situation with Erin when she was a young girl (who ran away from us at the swimming baths and entered the water on her own!) we are always super cautious now when around water with the girls. We may well be city dwellers most of the year, but we love our trips to the seaside and local pools and as such, it’s reassuring to know that Neve will subliminally be picking up some hints and tips about how to stay safe without even knowing it!

Not only is Kangaroo Beach really entertaining, but it reinforces some really important life skills too!

Where can I watch Kangaroo Beach?

Kangaroo Beach started on our screens on the 26th and you can now catch it every weekday at 9:30am on NickJr.  You can learn more about all the characters over on the Kangaroo Beach You Tube channel here –  Kangaroo Beach YouTube channel.

If you’re planning on heading to the beach with the kids this Summer, this is definitely one to check out!
