If you’ve followed my blog for a while, you’ll know that our garden has been on quite the journey. An extremely large space that was once completely overgrown, our garden has now completely transformed to become the hub of our home, a place where we entertain, play, eat outside and relax at the end of a busy day at work. During lockdown, we built a garden office for convenient working from home and last summer (if you can indeed call it that(!), we invested in a high-quality dining table to allow us to enjoy summer evenings eating alfresco as a family.

Overhauling your garden space can have huge benefits, but it doesn’t need to be expensive. Using high quality lighting products, you can quickly transform your garden from drab to fab.

We recently installed some beautiful festoon lighting installed across our top patio and fence panels to create a modern, warm and friendly aesthetic in the evenings.

IF you’re unsure whether to take the plunge, here are some of the benefits to adding festoon lighting to your garden space:

  • Welcoming aesthetic – Festoon lights aren’t just for weddings and festivals. These warm and inviting lights (often resembling outdoor fairy lights) come in a variety of colours, shapes and sizes that can be used to create a really unique customised space in your garden.
  • Versatile use – Even with using the same set of festoon lighting, the overall effects can vary. Festoon lights can be hung from a variety of places including along walls, trees and fence panels, or even draped from ceilings and pergolas if you’d like a more striking overhead effect.
  • Easy to install – Installing festoon lights is really quick and simple – even I was able to do it (which says a lot). Most high quality festoon lighting sets come with easy to use clips, hooks or strings to hang them, making them an accessible option even for those of us with limited DIY knowledge!
  • Hardwearing – They may be pretty, but festoon lighting is also incredibly durable, built to withstand everything the British weather has to throw at us. Made from weather-resistant materials, they are suitable to keep outside all year round – even in extreme wind, rain and snow.
  • Energy efficient – With electricity bills remaining high, you may be worried about the additional cost of festoon lighting. Fear not – many festoon lights are now available in energy-efficient LED versions, which consume significantly less energy compared to traditional incandescent bulbs.
  • Safe: LED festoon lights don’t emit much (if any) heat, making them safe to use in. your garden even around young children. You can even set up automatic shut off timers if you prefer not to leave them on all night.
  • Low maintenance – Once you’ve installed them, they require very minimal maintenance – in our case just the occasional clean due to birds who have an unfortunate aim when it comes to dropping their business! If you change your mind and want to mix things up, they’re also relatively easy to take down and move to a different location.

We’re really pleased with the simple yet incredibly effective look of the festoon lights in our home. You can check out the full range of festoon lighting, In a variety of shapes, colours and size packs at Lights4fun now.
