AD- This post is in collaboration with Paddington Electronic Learning Games from Trends

I love it when the characters from my childhood make a reappearance, giving me the opportunity to watch the girls enjoy some of the programmes, toys and activities that I did as a child back in the 80’s and 90’s. Paddington is one such character, the loveable bear from Peru with his hat, duffel coat and suitcase, and of course an insatiable appetite for marmalade. Following the success of the Paddington Movies and the TV series Adventures of Paddington Bear, Trends UK have released a brand new range of Preschool toys and electric learning games to help make learning fun.

We were sent both a Paddington Learning Suitcase and Paddington Paw Pad to put through their paces with Neve – here’s what we thought!

Paddington Learning Suitcase – Interactive First Tablet

The Paddington Learning Suitcase is a super cute carry along suitcase which makes learning fun with familiar characters from Paddington movies. The Paddington Learning Suitcase is aimed at children aged 3+ and has 5 different learning activities to explore and an additional quiz game so that children can also test their Paddington knowledge.

The Learning Suitcase comes with an on/off button on the back and an automatic shut off to reserve battery life. If the suitcase has not been played with for a minute the suitcase will say goodbye and turn itself off.

The activities on the Paddington Learning Suitcase include:

  1. Identifying colours
  2. Finding out about the Brown Family – click on each picture to hear the family member’s name then press again to learn more about them.
  3. Numbers and shapes – press once to hear the number and press again to hear the name of the shape.
  4. Names and sounds – press and object to hear its name and sound.
  5. Letters and objects – press the picture once for the phonetic pronunciation of the first letter. Press again for the alternative pronunciation of the letter as well as the name of the object. e.g. ‘cee’ ‘cuh’ ‘cake’.
  6. Quiz game – click on the image of Paddington – quiz question – he will chose a random question – select your answer and he will let you know if you are correct or not ‘well done you have found the letter C’ or ‘ooh never mind, try again;

Parents will be pleased to know there is a Volume button so that parents can turn it up and down!

3 x AAA batteries are included but these are demonstration batteries only so you may need to replace soon after use (that said we haven’t needed to yet!) The battery compartment is under the Large Paddington on the back of the case, so not easily accessed by little fingers!

Neve has really enjoyed playing with the Paddington Learning Suitcase, in particular hearing Paddington’s familiar voice and  interacting with pictures of Haddington’s favourite things including cake. honey, his hat and of course his suitcase!

The case is a great size, is lighweight and easy to carry, and is ideal for independent learning and play.

The Paddington Learning Suitcase retails at £19.99 and is available to buy at Amazon.

Paddington Paw Pad – Interactive First Tablet

Another item in the Trends Paddington Electronic Learning toy range is the Paddington Paw Pad – a fun, hand held Paw shaped pad which is ideal for travel or in the car.

The Paddington Paw Pad comes with 3 activities to explore.

  1. Letters and pictures – select this then press the A B or C button once for a description of the object, press again for the name of the first letter. Helps children understand both the phonetic sound and the name of letters, how they sound and what words begin with that letter.
  2. Objects – select then press any one of the six object buttons as per Paddington’s instructions.
  3. Numbers and shapes – Press one of the four number / shape buttons as requested.

There is also a Speech button which children can press to hear all about Paddington – a bit like a story but with lots of facts e.g. ‘I come from Peru’, ‘I’m a very rare sort of bear’, ‘I now live with a lovely family called the Browns’,

The Paddington Paw Pad was smaller than I expected, but this petite size was actually great for Neves age and she really liked the fact it was shaped like a paw. It comes with a Try Me/On/Off/ Volume control switch on the rear, and parents can choose between low volume and high volume (a real positive!) As with the Learning suitcase, The Paddington Paw Pad comes with an automatic shut off after periods of inactivity saying “I’ve had a lot of fun hope to see you again soon – goodbye for now!”

Bright and colourful with easy to press buttons and a “press a button’ prompt, Neve really enjoyed navigating her way around the Paw pad and learning more about the numbers, shapes and pictures.

The Paw Pad is available at John Lewis now and retails at £12.99.
