Our Experience of Lapland UK
We visited Lapland UK as a family of four in December 2022 and had the most amazing time with my girls (who were 6 and 9 at the time). I was convinced that this may be our last year with my eldest being a believer, but she came out more convinced than ever that she had met ‘the real’ Father Christmas. You can read our full Lapland UK Review here.
One of my biggest anxieties was where to stay when visiting Lapland UK, as I was so worried we would be late. Instead of driving home late or risking getting stuck in traffic, we started looking into Lapland UK Hotels. We travelled down from Birmingham, so being able to check in to the hotel before heading off to our Lapland UK experience at 4pm was an excellent decision. The girls were exhausted when we left Lapland UK around 9pm, so being able to go straight to bed in a comfortable hotel without having to travel back down the motorway worked really well for us.
If you’re looking for family hotels near Lapland UK, fear not, thanks to my own experiences and those shared in the UK fan group over the last year, I’ve researched so that you don’t have to.
My main piece of advice would be to book hotels near Lapland UK early – they sell out incredibly quickly once tickets to Lapland UK go on sale in Spring. Plan ahead, and book with the flexible booking plans if possible – these bookings for Lapland UK hotels may work out slightly more expensive, but can be cancelled with 24 hours notice should you need to unexpectedly cancel your stay. Tickets for Lapland UK 2024 go on sale on Monday 18th March at midday – with places in the queue generated at random at 12pm. Be prepared for a long queue and check out our Lapland UK Hints and Tips!

Lapland UK FAQS
What is Lapland UK?
Haven’t heard of Lapland UK yet? Where have you been? Lapland Ascott in the UK is a truly immersive UK Santa experience set in a real life forest near Ascot in Berkshire. Loved by celebrities and us regular folk alike, the first 90 minutes of the experience is a guided. scripted experience, during which you and your children enter the workshop to help the elves make a toy, before meeting Mother Christmas for a story and gingerbread decorating.
You then watch in awe as the portals opens to transport the children to Lapland – where you enter the Elven Village. Here, you are free to explore at your leisure for around 90 minutes. From ice skating on the giant outdoor ice rink, to posting your letter to Santa at the Elven post office, you can also meet Santa’s huskies, visit the Elf Emporium shops and get some food, and meet some of the friendly elves wondering around, all whilst surrounded by snow topped trees. It really is like entering another world!
During the final part of the experience, you make your way to meet Santa, walking past the reindeer and sleigh (with Rudolph’s nose glowing through the window of the shed where he naps) before meeting the big man himself. Thanks to the online portal you completed before you go, Father Christmas knows lots about your children and really chats to them about their likes, dislikes and what they would like for Christmas.
The children receive a magic bell and a husky soft toy from Father Christmas. and best of all. the toy they make in the workshop is secretly handed to the ‘big folk’ before you leave, so you can gift it as a surprise from Father Christmas on Christmas Day itself. The experience is thought out so that it’s just as exciting during the build up (with a boxed invitation and virtual reality message), through to the memories you’ll cherish when you get back.

Can you go to Lapland UK more than once?
According to guests in the Lapland UK Fan group on facebook, there are subtle changes to the Lapland UK programme each year, and whilst many families only go once, there are equally families that have been many times in a row. Each year, you can expect to hear a different story by Mother Christmas and are given a different Husky toy given by Santa. If you have been before you can state which years you attended so that you are given a different husky teddy to the ones your child has received previously.
Do you need to buy Jingles?
Lapland UK is a cash free experience, so payment for food, drink and merchandise is via card payment or the Lapland UK currency – Jingles. You can buy jingles when you booked your Lapland UK tickets, or you can buy them when you check in at the venue itself. Many families choose to buy Jingles as they come in a little pouch that puts children in control – almost like giving them some genuine elf money to spend in the Lapland portal. Many families also choose to collect Jingles, as they feature images of the Lapland UK elves including Conker and Wish.
Is Lapland UK suitable for children with additional needs?
Lapland UK caters very well for additional needs and accessibility. They also have a Superstar Day each year which is specifically adapted and tailored for children and adults with additional needs. Yes, Lapland UK has real animals – specifically the reindeer. There were huskies in 2022, but I believe these are no longer there due and were stopped for 2023. It’s worth noting that at the time of our visit (December 2022, you were able to look but not touch (or feed) the animals) but could have your photo taken close by.
