15 Easy Ways to create your Eco Friendly Home
Do you have an Eco Friendly Home? As a Mother of two, I suddenly feel a surge of responsibility not only for looking after my girls, but looking after the world in which they are going to be growing up in. As a family, we try and do our best to be eco / environmentally friendly recycle more and reduce the amount of waste we produce and energy we consume, but it is a lot easier said than done! I want to make sure that my children grow up learning about the ways then can help look after our planet. I’d love to create a more eco friendly home so that we can do that bit more to live sustainably.
Thanks to Rattan Direct, who recently produced a guide on how you can do your bit to save the planet, here are some easy ways you can look to create a more eco friendly home.
- Reduce your thermostat by 1 degree – barely noticeable but could also save you £60 a year!
- Install a smart meter – to monitor and optimise your heating and reduce your carbon dioxide emissions,
- Bleed your radiators to ensure they work more effectively.
- Have showers instead of baths – keep your little luxuries down to once or twice a week!
- Spend less time in the shower – cutting a few minutes off your shower will reduce the amount of energy used to heat your water.
- Cook meals in bulk and freeze them – not only will this save money, but reduces the energy requirements of cooking daily from scratch.
- Use your leftovers
- Don’t use your dishwasher until it’s full
- Lower the temperature of your washing machine – washing at 20 degrees uses up to 70% less energy.
- Dry your clothes in the sunshine!
- Unplug your devices when not in use
- Only boil the water that you need – don’t waste extra water when making your cuppa!
- Change your bulbs for LED
- Buy A rated appliances
- Install a rainwater harvesting system – you can water your plants and keep control of your garden with natural water sources
By taking these easy steps, we can all do our little bit to help the environment and make a more eco friendly home. If we all did a bit of this it would make a huge difference to our planet!
Given the heat we have this week, I will be starting by getting that washing on the line in the morning! 🙂
