Exploring the Bluebells in Wootton Wawen
Visiting the Bluebells in Wootton Wawen – what a perfect end to our holiday. As if our week away hadn’t been blessing enough, we were treated to a lovely sunny bank holiday – the warmest May bank holiday since records began, and another day for us to spend as a family of four before the madness of school runs, nursery drop offs and work commutes commences again.
One thing I always get excited about when I turn the calendar over to the month of May is the prospect of our annual visit to the bluebells in Wootten Wawen – at Yew Tree Farm Shopping Village. Ever since I was a child, the sight of bluebells has always been something that I find totally mesmerising – I find them somewhat magical, and for me, there is no happier May tradition than taking the girls to explore in the woods with the perfect photography backdrop! (Please note if you are looking for bluebells in Wootton Wawen for 2019, it appears that sadly Yew Tree Farm is not opening the trail to the public this year- only for photography dates).Â
Last year I was devastated when the Yew Tree Farm walk of bluebells in Wootton Wawen didn’t open for visitors, as we had been the previous two years with Erin and I was desperate to take Neve for the first time. Due to it’s huge popularity, the roads around the venue had become extremely congested, and from what I understand complaints from residents meant that the 2 day only bank holiday woodland walk didn’t go ahead.
This year I was over the moon to see the bluebells in wootton wawen return – with extended opening hours, and 1.5 miles of amazing bluebell filled woodland, we set off extra early (to try and avoid the rush and the day time heat) – with lots of water, snacks and sunhats in tow!
As with previous years, the bluebells in wootton wawen and the trail did not disappoint, what started as a steady scattering of bluebells here and there soon developing into a full blanket of bright blue flowers as far as the eye could see.
I could have quite happily stayed there all day, nestled away in the shade of the trees, the odd bright ray of sunshine peeking through and adding a glistening pool of light to everything it touched.
Neve, being the stubborn little lady that she is, refused to hold anyones hand, barging off into the distance with one arm rapidly flicking out as she went, her baby like walk now having become more of a confident stomp. Erin was running and skipping ahead into the distance, loving the fact she could burn off some energy before heading back to school tomorrow.
With lots of photo opportunities along the way, and a few kind souls who were happy to take a family shot for us, we managed to get a few pics of us all together – these are the types of photos that I really cherish as they are a pretty rare occurrence!
I hope you all had a great bank holiday weekend!
Lucy
