Fun Style Tips for Chidren this Spring

Fun Style Tips for Chidren this Spring

#AD Spring is finally on its way. As much as I love Halloween, Bonfire Night and Christmas, overall I am not a huge fan of the Winter months. I hate January, and I’m not exactly a massive fan of February either! It’s only when March arrives that I start to feel a little more hopeful about the arrival of Spring and Summer.

For me, the start of Spring with its longer days and lighter evenings, brings with it the opportunity for us to get outside more and enjoy some quality time in the great outdoors with the girls. We can ditch the woolly hats, gloves and scarves, swap to lighter coats and jackets, and blow the cobwebs away, and it’s fair to say that we all feel a little brighter for it. I cannot wait for the days of strong sunshine and heatwaves again!

Here are some of my spring and summer essentials for the girls:

  • A classic trilby hat – not only does a trilby hat protect the girls’ delicate skin from the UV rays when the sun starts making its way through the clouds again, but I absolutely love how cute these look and really help create a relaxed festival vibe to their outfits.
  • Playsuits – both of my girls love to run, and despite being fans of pretty dresses and skirts that spin (an essential skirt requirement for a five year old!), they aren’t always a suitable option for providing freedom of play! Playsuits are ideal – giving them the freedom to climb, jump and even hang upside down without flashing their knickers to the world. The beautiful selection at Strawberry Children (designer children’s clothes) are absolutely gorgeous, and the perfect combination of pretty and practical.
  • Wellies – don’t always assume that because the sun is shining that the ground won’t still be muddy. After the amount of rain we have had in recent weeks – I ALWAYS take a pair of wellies with me for the girls to change into when we head out to explore. We then pop them in a carrier bag when we get back to the car and swap into their normal shoes – no more muddy stains over the car interiors! Neve is a big fan of Peppa Pig; and as such, jumping up and down in muddy puddles now appears to be her mantra!
  • Cosy Cardigans – On the days where it’s not quite warm enough to ditch the coat a wide knit cardigan or hoody is perfect for slipping on over their dress or playsuit. With the weather being still quite unpredictable in Spring, it’s always recommended to have lots of layers that you can easily remove if things start to heat up.
  • Shower proof jackets – As an April born baby, I know only too well about the April Showers – every birthday I have ever had seems to be a day where the heavens opened. A fold away shower proof jacket is great for heading out and about, taking up very little space when packed away, but easy to bring out in downpour emergencies.
  • Finally, bringing the colour back – For me by far the best part of spring and summer fashion is the ability to bring the colour back in to the girl’s wardrobe. After the long dark and grey Winter days, it’s lovely to inject some bright colours and floral patterns back into their outfits. Not only do the bright colours look great in photos (I’m an Insta mum at heart!) but they help bring a bit of personality back into their outfits too.

What are your Spring fashion must haves for the kids? You can see more of the girls and what they’re wearing over on my Instagram feed here.
