Great Value BBQs on a Budget with Jacks Supermarket
AD – This post is in collaboration with Jack’s Supermarket
Despite the restrictions easing from the 19th July, like many other people in the UK at the moment, I am still feeling quite cautious about where we go and who we mix without outside of the home. As such, over the coming Summer months, it is likely that we will tend to focus more on entertaining with family and friends safely in the comfort of our own garden and simply enjoy the luxury of having each others company again (hopefully with the addition of some long awaited sunshine!)
Dining at home with friends can be an expensive affair – but it really doesn’t have to be! I was recently challenged by Jack’s Supermarket to see if I could get everything I needed for a BBQ gathering with friends and family for under £20 without compromising on quality. Sounds too good to be true right?
I headed down to my local Jacks Supermarket and you wouldn’t believe the amount of food I was able to pick up for the price!!
WHO ARE JACK’S?
Jack’s discount supermarket is part of the Tesco family and have stores all across the UK.
A supermarket packed full of great quality products at outstanding prices, Jack’s are passionate about supporting and working with regional farmers, growers and producers, with 100% of their fresh chicken, lamb, beef and milk from British famers.
Not only do Jack’s sell big brands at great prices, but have their own range of Jack’s branded products too, as well as fresh fruit and vegetables. Every two weeks there is a fab five fruit and vegetables at outstanding prices such as vine tomatoes for just 79p and brown onions for just 49p! These offers reset every fortnight to reflect seasonal fresh produce.
For the savvy shoppers amongst you, you’ll also be pleased to know that Jack’s don’t just sell food!
Every Thursday, Jack’s launch new products in there When Its Gone Its Gone Ailse (WIGIG) with a wide range of products from homeware to electricals, kids toys to furniture. I know only too well the pull of the middle aisle, but being able to pick up some practical essentials at the same time as the food shop is always a winner!
Jacks Fire Pit BBQ Selection
With summer now well under way (and based on the forecast for this week the sun FINALLY getting the memo), now is the ideal time to enjoy some delicious BBQs with friends and family safely in the comfort of your own back garden.
Jack’s have recently launched a delicious new Fire Pit BBQ selection, perfect for sharing with friends and family and with options to suit every dietary requirements and taste buds.
Not only can you save a fortune on their great value BBQ essentials (costing a fraction of what it would cost at other supermarkets) but you don’t need to compromise on the quality or taste!
The Jack’s BBQ bundle can be found at the end of their chiller aisle where you will be able to pick up all your BBQ essentials for less than £20. From the BBQ Mango Coconut & Lime Chicken Fillets to chicken thighs rubbed in a BBQ Chinese or sweet chilli seasoning, pepper thin cut beef steaks or smokey BBQ beef kebabs, grilled haloumi, roasted vegetables and vegetable kebabs, there really is something for everyone!
All of the Fire Pit range is available from Jack’s stores, priced at only £2.99 per item and we headed to our local store to check it out.
Our Selection of Jack’s BBQ Essentials!
I headed down to Jacks supermarket in Rubery and managed to pick up a huge selection of BBQ essentials without breaking the bank – with a great range of vegetarian and kid friendly options available too.
I am a big chicken fan, so for me personally the choices were obvious – peri peri chicken steaks and chicken and chorizo kebabs! Mike on other other hand, is a big fan of red meat so straight away I knew that the salt and pepper steaks and the beef burgers with the addition of a cheddar cheese burger melt would be right up his street!
We’re both impartial to some veg and side dishes with our bbq too, so it was great to see a range of fresh salads, corn on the cob and vegetable kebab options, as well as sides such as minted new potatoes, nachos, salsa, potato salad, coleslaw and halloumi slices.
When the kids are involved you quite simply can’t have a BBQ without bringing out their favourite s’mores, so I even picked up some biscuits, marshmallows and milk chocolate within budget to stick on the grill for desert!
Our Verdict on the Jack’s BBQ Range
I have to say the weather was super kind to us this week and it felt so lovely to all be able to sit around the table outside and chat whilst Mike fired up the grill! I was really impressed with the range and variety of food we had to choose from in our Jack’s selection and felt like we were able to provide a really varied spread which gave everyone lots of choice!
Even better than the sunshine – the food tasted absolutely amazing. Really high quality, tender meat with super tasty flavours that really packed some punch – the peri peri chicken in particular was an absolute dream. I absolutely loved the roasted veg and vegetable kebabs as accompaniments and combined with some potato salad and coleslaw I really felt pretty stuffed after digging in! As usual, with eyes bigger than my belly, the left over chicken also tasted amazing on a baguette for lunch the following day!
Mike really loved his reduced fat beef burgers and the cheese topper was a really great addition in a soft flour topped batch roll. The salt and pepper steaks disappeared so quickly I barely got chance to snap a photo (take from that what you will!)
You can see some pics of our other favourite items below!
After the last year and a half of being separated from those that we care about, having a bbq outside with friends in the sunshine really is one of life’s simple pleasures!
There are so many options in the Jacks Fire Pit range that no matter how many guests you are catering for, you can really CAN create a super appealing spread on a limited budget.
And yes – when it came to satisfying the kids cravings – the s’mores were also AMAZING!
