How to Create a Cosy Loft Conversion This Christmas

How to Create a Cosy Loft Conversion This Christmas

This is a collaborative post

Christmas is a truly magical time of year, with many days to celebrate, gather with friends and enjoy the cold weather! And what better way to enjoy the colder season than, well, staying out of the cold?! A loft conversion can be a perfect cosy space in your home, where you, or your guests, can cuddle up and enjoy their own space and privacy. But how can you create the perfect cosy loft conversion?

Firstly, if you want to create a truly cosy space, you are going to need to consider the colder months when your loft conversion is first being designed. To create a feeling of warmth or comfort, you want to contrast the warmth inside the loft space with the weather outside. This is easy to achieve by having windows in your loft conversion. These can be skylights,
casement windows or even a balcony. Why not consider having a reading nook too, with a place to sit directly next to your window, allowing you to cuddle up and peer outside at the cold weather outside? Or equally, skylights positioned above the bedspace can create the perfect star-gazing area!

Now, if you have no say over the structure of your loft conversion then these tips are for you, as they work in any type of loft conversion. You can create a cosy loft conversion by decorating with soft surfaces. This means using patterned cushions, textured rugs and having soft throws on any beds or seats. This will make your loft space cosy to the touch, with your feet feeling warm on the soft rugs, and your loft space looking warm and inviting.

Having some contrast with harder items of furniture can work well here too, with bookshelves packed full of colourful books being a great addition to any cosy loft conversion.

The next important design feature will be your colour scheme. Feature walls look great in the colder months, as you can contrast strong, deep colours with paler colours on the walls.

Next to the darker feature walls, if you place soft seating or softer pieces of furniture, you can create a soft section, that draws your guests in and encourages them to sit down and relax. Of course, for Christmas, the best colours to use would be dark reds, and lighter burnt oranges in your décor!

To compliment these dark colours, your choice of interior lighting will be incredibly important. Warm lighting from wall lights or lamps can help to create a slightly darker room in the evenings, that has the warmth of a log fire that many people associate with gentle heat and feeling cosy. If you want a slightly different approach, maybe for a child’s bedroom or a room that does not suit fitted lights on the walls, why not experiment with fairy lights?

For such small lights, they can create a big impact on making your room look dusted with warm light and slightly magical!

There are many ways you can create a cosy loft conversion in these colder months, from your choices of light to your colour schemes. There is lots of space for inspiration from the Simply Loft team, the leading providers of loft conversions in London and the West Midlands.
