How To Make Your Office A More Creative Space

This is a collaborative post

In 2024, with many business owners having a remote workforce, not all businesses have a physical office anymore. Despite this, some companies still find that a central office is vital. It may be that the kind of work you do is quite sensitive and that working from home is less secure, or simply because your team prefer it. No matter what your reasons, if you do have an office that everyone comes to every day, you’ll need to make sure it’s a comfortable place to be and that the surroundings allow your teams’ creativity to thrive.

When you think about it, creativity is one of the most important traits a worker can have – that’s how things get done to a high standard, and it’s how people come up with all the best and most innovative new ideas. So with that in mind, let’s look at how you can ensure your office is a more creative space to get the very best out of your employees. Read on to find out more.

Make It Flexible

People love flexibility, and although that can mean working from home or hybrid working, there are other ways to give them flexibility even when attending a central workplace every day. Providing flexibility can help workers feel more satisfied in their job, have a better work-life balance and, of course, become a lot more creative as a result.

One type of flexibility you could offer is hot desking, allowing employees to work from any desk they choose, where they set up their workstation for the day. While a seemingly small gesture, it can actually help your staff feel more in control, which inevitably makes them happier. You can also add some quiet zones and collaboration zones, so people can work in the way that suits them best. Don’t forget about flexible hours – as long as the work gets done, does it really matter what hours people are working? This can be particularly helpful for those with caring responsibilities or disabilities.

Bring Nature Indoors

There is something so calming and serene about bringing nature indoors, and studies have actually shown that it can be a good way to help people become more creative as well – it helps them relax and allows the mind to go to places it might not have done when there was stress and tension in the air.

If you want a more creative office, plants and greenery are the way to go for sure. Add some plants to the office space and just see how much brighter everything (and everyone) becomes as a result – plus, you’ll have better air quality and everyone will be less stressed. Maximising the amount of natural light coming in will not only keep the plants alive for longer, but it also boosts the mood massively providing a valuable source of vitamin D. While we’re on the subject of natural things, you can also try to use more natural materials in your office furniture and design, like wood, stone and bamboo.

More Storage Solutions

If there’s one thing that’s guaranteed to stifle creativity, it’s clutter. A disorganised workplace can make you feel stressed, as well as making your workspace uncomfortable and potentially unsafe.

If your office is a little (or a lot) messy, then investing in more storage solutions is a great option, Not only will it help you to tidy up and get more organised, it can provide space for your team to think more creatively too.

Industrial grade shelving bays are ideal for a warehouse, allowing you to store everything neatly, while still offering visibility of precisely what you’ve got in stock. They can also keep your tools and equipment safe and secure. You can also use this kind of shelving to create partitions and define different areas – a great way to separate work spaces or provide some privacy.

If you don’t have a warehouse or you do and you also have an office to think about, some attractive shelving wouldn’t go amiss or some filing cabinets and cupboard space to divide your open-plan office. As long as you can keep things tidy and uncluttered, the choice is yours.
