How to Raise a Science Lover

How to Raise a Science Lover

*This is a collaborative post

Science will always have a place in the world. We need it to learn and make sense of things like how illnesses and infections spread as well as to develop innovative solutions like cures. Its work is used across a range of industries and it’s evident that it can help to pave the way for a prosperous future. There’s also the individual achievement and satisfaction that comes from knowing the contribution that you’ve made to the world. If you want to increase your child’s interest in science and help guide them into a related career, there are several things that you can do. Here are a few from a private school in Oxfordshire.

Its Importance

You can start by talking about real life applications and why it’s so important as we’ve done. Museums and exhibitions are great places that you can arrange trips to. They will be able to physically see what science is capable of doing and delve deeper by talking to experts that work in the fields themselves.

Teaching

You can take the lead and teach your child about science yourself. There are plenty of at home experiments that you can create using everyday household items. For example, you can carry out a baking soda and vinegar experiment or explore other aspects of science like kinetic particle theory. If you’re worried about being an inexperienced teacher, there are resources online that you can make use of such as YouTube tutorials that you can follow together.

The Solar System

We are tiny when compared to the rest of the universe. There’s life on other planets that we potentially know nothing about. It was only a few years ago when water was discovered on mars which begs the question of how much there is still to learn. There’s also uncharted territory here on earth as less than 10% of the ocean has been mapped.

Additional Help

Another way that you can help is by supporting your child with their work. If they’re struggling, you may be able to help them or at the very least, speak to someone that can like their teacher or a qualified tutor. By addressing these concerns, you can help them to understand the subject and enjoy science.

Science Shows

Children’s TV channels include many educational programs which can help them in school. Science shows like those that carry out cool experiments can introduce them to new concepts and in a way that doesn’t take much of their time and effort.

These are just a few suggestions to help get you started. There’s much more that you can do and advice that you can consult. For example, you may choose to fill their room with science books and posters or do something a little more creative like build a solar system model together.
