How to Turn your Home into a Winter Wonderland
#This is a collaborative post
If you don’t take decorations seriously, then Christmas in your home probably won’t feel much like Christmas. Home decorations come in many forms, aside from the obligatory Christmas tree as a centrepiece. To create a theme that’s distinctive and memorable, you’ll need to get a little bit creative. Let’s take a look at some of the items that’ll help transform your home into a true winter wonderland!
Lighting
To create that warm and inviting look, low lighting works brilliantly. This might mean laying out a few candles, who flicking flames will provide that aura of magic. Having multiple open flames in the house isn’t what you’d call safe, however, and so most of us opt for electrically-powered lights.
While multicoloured lights have long been popular, warm-white LED fairly lights will usually get more mileage, as they can safely be used outside of Christmas time. Drape them around the back of sofas, around dining areas, and up and down banisters.
Wreath
Your front door is a fantastic opportunity to create a festive impression on your visitors. The best way to do this, indisputably, is with the help of a wreath. This circle of greenery can be customised with whatever embellishments take your fancy, with pine cones and baubles being traditional choices. Either buy a wreath ready-to-go from a quality retailer like Cox & Cox, or make your own by weaving your materials around a bare-bones frame.
Garlands
You can bring a little festive greenery into your interior with the help of a well-judged garland. Drape it around the side of your staircase, so that it weaves in and out of the rails, or have it sit atop the banister itself. Tinsel garlands make a great alternative to pine ones, but they don’t offer quite the same aura of luxury.
Baubles
Christmas trees, should be equipped with a generous complement of baubles. These can be bought from just about anywhere, and you’ll pay slightly more for the posher ones. If you have a creative streak, or you have children in the house who’d like an excuse to break out the glitter and glue, then you can make your own personalised baubles, and thereby ensure that your decorations are one-of-a-kind.
Mistletoe
Kissing under the mistletoe is a tradition that’s not often observed in modern times – but you can bring it back by hanging a few springs in the right places. Underneath the stairs is usually a great shout.
