Inspiring Bathroom Trends for 2018/19

Inspiring Bathroom Trends for 2018/19

Out of all the rooms in your home, your bathroom is the one that tends to not get updated as much as the rest. Once fitted, we tend to keep it how it is, and with the exception of new towels and  from time to time, it’s a room that is rarely given a makeover even when the seasons change. However, there are strong interior trends in bathrooms that are just as exciting as living rooms, kitchens and bedroom. And for the remainder of 2018 going right through to 2019, there are some key bathroom interior trends worth taking note of!

Your bathroom is one room in your home which should make you feel relaxed and calm and usually takes on the whole clean, crisp and bright theme. Updating this room can be really affordable and there is an extensive range of cheap bathroom suites that are perfect for an affordable refresh. But to ensure you have it styled and decorated to reflect the latest trends, read on to find out what’s hot this season.

1. Personal Touches
There’s a huge interior trend present right now which is going strong across lounge and living areas. The trend is all about adding personal touches to your room, which reflect ‘you’ – all those things that mean something to you and reflect personality.

This year bathrooms are no longer all about the bare “wet” spaces that they once were, and have lots of scope for added personalities. Utilise practical decorative items to enhance everyday functionality. For example, try adding a beautiful tray to display your most-used perfumes, jewellery items, lotions or soaps.

For a memoir feel, try locating an old photograph that shows an old holiday destination, or favourite memory from years ago. Consider framing it and hanging on the wall of your bathroom, or even just hunting out a unique print which reflects your favourite place to travel. I love this idea, and this is something that I will be doing myself.

2. Be Bold
The trend to become a little bolder at home is huge for this year and next. There’s much more focus on being braver with styling up accent colours and playing with all kinds of shades. You can easily add a personalised style to your bathroom the same way you would do in other rooms of the home. You can change up the colour schemes of your towels, bath mats and rugs to reflect the seasons or your mood.

There are also trends in feature wallpaper and larger-format mosaic tiles coming through for bathrooms, bringing in new ways of injecting colour. Some homes have done this by having a bath or a toilet seat in a bold, loud colour (like red) yet keeping the rest of the bathroom white.

3. Outdoor Vibes
Without making your home look too much like a jungle or an oasis, the addition of plants and greenery is a huge upcoming trend for bathrooms. Indoor plants have made a return to the bathroom in a big way, and if you strategically place them on window ledges, corners of the bathtub or on top of cupboards, you’ll find they blend in perfectly. If you wanted something a bit more ‘wow’, and if you have the space, pick a gorgeous free-standing floor planter to go in the corner of the room.

Plants have an instant impact and can really give your bathroom a resort-like feel in an instant. Bang-for-buck; they’re a winner because you can pick up a lush indoor plant at affordable prices, and really make your bathroom look and feel like a personal sanctuary.

4. Thinner and Slimmer
When it comes to bathroom furniture, shelving, basins and cabinets, think along the ‘smaller’ lines. We are seeing a big trend arise across smaller feature tiles, thinner shelving and cabinetry outlines that all have that ‘less chunky’ feel. This look gives a much more modern feel and that overall ‘sleek’ finish.

5. Texture is ‘in’
A new one in the bathroom interiors world is the introduction of more tactile and textured tiles on the walls and surrounding areas. Think along the lines of 3D tiles – the ones which add depth to a wall and will often bounce the light around the room better than a flat surfaced tile would.

You can get ‘3D’ style tiles that have features such as subtle waves, etchings and layers, to provide contrasts in light and shadow and give raw textures. But remember to keep the colours classic and neutral – think whites, greys, blacks and metallic.

6. The straight and square trend
A trend coming through across tapware and piping is ‘straight and square’, keeping curves minimal where possible. Alongside this across any metal materials is to embrace a mix of matte and metallic. Don’t be afraid to mix your finishes!

You’ll find that across bathroom showrooms and interior trend magazines, elegant and sophisticated tapware designs now feature in matte gold, champagne and tiger bronze finishes. They all seem to be designed to a new straight and square shape, which provides a lavish but clutter-free, timelessly elegant look.

However, remember that with all of the above, it’s important that you style your bathroom up to reflect you and your personal tastes. Use these trends as reference points, and overall, have some fun decorating.
