Nailmatic Kids Nail Polish Review
I have always been a little unsure when it comes to kids nail polish or using nail varnish on young children – and as such me and my other half have had a few debates in the past about whether its appropriate for our young daughter (three) to wear nail polish on her fingers or toes.
My view is that it is relatively harmless, where as he sees it as “growing up too quick”. We therefore have agreed to limit kids nail polish to special occasions only (such as children’s birthday parties and Christmas) and remove it fairly quickly after the event. Erin gets very excited to be “just like mummy” and gets very excited at the prospect of having her nails done. She loves watching me apply it, and gets very excited to see the finished affect! 🙂
Whilst I think the nails look super cute once done, I hate the inevitable after-math of chipped and wearing off nail polish, but also don’t feel particularly comfortable with the alternative of using potentially harsh chemical nail polish removers on such young and delicate skin.
When I heard about Nailmatic Kids nail polish – water based wash off nail polishes that are completely safe for young children and wash off with simple soap and water, I was really keen to check them out. The fact they do surprise cones was even better, as my three year old is a little obsessed with opening surprise products!! 🙂 (A woman opening surprise eggs on YouTube could potentially keep her occupied for hours!)
About Nailmatic Kids Nail Polish
Nailmatic Kids nail polish is especially formulated for little ones – a water based varnish containing no nasty ingredients that can be easily removed with warm soapy water. There’s no need for nail polish remover.
Nailmatic kids is made in France without organic solvents, phthalate-free, formaldehyde-free, toluene-free, fragrance-free.
Nailmatic Surprise Cones are a great gift for young children, containing 5 separate items:
- A Nailmatic Kids nail polish
- Multi-coloured, water-based, felt pens with their own cool carrying case
- 3 soy ink based tattoos
- A natural latex balloon
- A traditional fruity lollipop
The polishes themselves start at £6.99 for a single boxed polish or are available in packs of 3 different colours for £19.99. The surprise cones are available in 3 different colours, and retail at £12.99.
Our Experience of Nailmatic Kids Nail Polish
Erin LOVED the surprise cone opening experience and was chuffed to bits with the contents inside. I would say the cone is aimed at children between 3 and 7 years from the contents. The little case of tiny felt tip pens was very cute, and Erin later enjoyed colouring in the outside of the surprise cone and the box holding the polish. I personally wouldn’t want Erin to use the tattoos, as I hate the way they look when they start to wear off, but Erin thought they were stickers anyway so I didn’t correct her! 🙂
You can watch a video of Erin unboxing her Nailmatic Kids Nail Polish surprise cone below:
We received the Princess colour surprise cone, and the nail polish inside was a lovely coral pink colour. It was easy to apply, and quite thin being water based with a little hint of glitter throughout. As it is water based it is perhaps not as bold a colour as you may get with an adult nail polishes – I actually quite liked this, but if you want a bolder affect you may want to apply a second layer.
The polish dried quickly and therefore there was no concern about Erin having to sit still for too long in a room with new cream carpet! After a few minutes of holding her nails out to dry “just like Mummy” they were completely dry to the touch and Erin could play as normal.
One thing I was worried about was just HOW easily the Nailmatic Kids nail polish would come off. I wanted it to be fairly hassle free, but at the same time, I encourage good hand hygiene, and therefore was a little concerned it would come off at her first visit to the toilet! The balance was just perfect. Erin went to the toilet a few times and washed her hands but the nail polish stayed in tact. When we wanted to remove it we simply used a bit more soap and warmer water, and rubbed gently at her nails. It came off very easily and left no obvious marks. I would therefore say that the polish would at least last for the event itself, but may not last the entire day, depending on how often your child washes their hands.  With toenails this would be less of a worry, and would last longer, or until their next bath at least! 🙂
Polishes are available on their own for £6.99 – so the cone is quite expensive in comparison – that said, as a gift I think the surprise element of the cone is a lovely idea, and would personally pay the extra to watch her have the experience of opening up and seeing the gifts inside. Erin loved using the pens to colour in the box for the nail varnish as well, so it became a bit of a craft activity after the initial opening.
Pros:
- No chipping, or nibbled looking nails for days after application.
- Safe for young children and no need to worry about the harmful chemicals in polish or remover.
- Fun experience of the surprise cone makes opening the gift very exciting! 🙂
- Wide choice of colours available including glitter polishes and three colour sets.
- Washes off quickly and easily with warm soapy water.
Cons:
- Not particularly cheap, but paying for natural product which is safer on your child’s skin.
- Not as “bold” colour as you may get with a traditional polish.
- Don’t want to discourage child from washing their hands, so need to ensure they don’t resist washing for fear of it coming off! 🙂
