Online Dating – How times have changed…
I was recently contacted by Meetchu to ask my personal experiences of online dating, and to highlight how things may have changed somewhat since my last single days.
As a Mum of two daughters, I’ve been with my partner Mike for around 6 years. Somewhat luckily, the way we got together was relatively straight forward – we had known each other for around ten years prior to becoming a couple; having gone to uni together and stayed in touch as a group of friends ever since. We both ended up single at the same time so decide to go for a drink, and I guess the rest is history (and probably more information than you need to know 😂!).
In modern life I think meeting new people for potential relationships can actually be very difficult, despite us in theory being more ‘connected’ than ever before.
Prior to (re)meeting Mike, I was single for around 12 months, and as meeting people in bars and clubs wasn’t really my scene, I did have a short dabble with online dating – to be honest with mixed results.
My Online Dating Experience
I found the whole experience of online dating somewhat daunting. I made an opinion of someone based on a few poor quality images and a bio full of what they felt was there best traits, had a bit of a discussion via instant message style chat and then decided whether or not to take the plunge and meet them for a drink. And a plunge in to the unknown it really was.
Some dates went ok, but for others, the reality of who showed up on that infamous first date was nothing like I expected. Their photos were clearly old (and time had not been kind to them), and with all the photo editing apps and filters available these days it’s no wonder the images portrayed are often a far distance from the reality.
Meetchu is different
Meetchu is a brand new dating app and is seeking to change this; with their ethos being ‘meet before you meet’. Meetchu is packed full of new and fairly unique features that make it a little different from other dating sites so I downloaded the app to have a look around – letting Mike know first of course!!
Meetchu really is a different to the world of online dating I remember. Firstly it enables wannabe daters to not only add images and a biography of all the things they want you to know, but also offers the ability to upload video content, allowing you to get a real genuine feel for someone’s personality, sense of humour and ‘real time’ image/voice/characteristics before you commit to meeting them in person. This can give you much more confidence that the person you are signing up to meet really is someone who you’re going to want to spend time with, and make that first meeting a lot less daunting.
In modern times it can also be a bit risky to give out mobile numbers to whom is effectively a total stranger, and Meetchu have thought of that too. Meetchu offers a secure voice and video calling feature, meaning you can chat to your potential dates without having to reveal any personal information whatsoever. The video calls are a great way to check for initial attraction and get a feel for whether you have a connection prior to committing to a face to face and make the whole experience a lot more secure for all concerned.
Finally another great feature of Meetchu is the delete option, allowing you to effectively ‘pull back’ all the messages you have sent to a particular individual. Not only is this useful if you decide that someone is not the one for you, but also a useful option if you message someone when you’re feeling lonely or have had one glass of rose too many and then wish that you hadn’t – a little like when you text you ex when your drunk!!!
Whilst I’m clearly not in the market to give Meetchu a proper go myself, my first impressions are that this could be a great tool for anyone looking to meet people with added peace of mind and security. For single parents, this is another option to explore that is hopefully more likely to find someone who is actually looking for a relationship, as opposed to simply hooking up!
You can download Meetchu and learn more here. If you download the app with my code you can get one months FREE premium membership – what have you got to lose? If you’re in the market for love or know someone who is – why not give it a try?
