Our Socially Distanced trip to the Real Flower Confetti Fields, Pershore

Of all the places I love to visit with the girls, The real flower confetti fields in Pershore has to be up there as one of my favourites. Having been to the confetti fields in Wick, Pershore with the girls every summer for the last 3 years, I was super keen to return to ‘my happy place’ and capture some shots of the girls wondering amongst the delphiniums, wildflowers and cornflowers, so when Covid restrictions were put in place, I was really worried that our visit wouldn’t be possible. Luckily, through an online booking system, restricted numbers and slightly later planting, our visit was still able to go ahead! We headed along as a family on Friday, the day of opening. If you’re planning on attending the confetti fields this August, here are some more details of our visit.

Where are the Real Flower Petal Confetti Co. Fields?

The Real Flower Confetti Fields are located behind the village of Wick on the Wyke Manor Estate, Pershore, Worcestershire (The postcode is Wr10 3PA) and due to the location of the field and the current restrictions are not recommended for guests travelling on public transport or walking. The fields are used to make real flower confetti for weddings and events and open for a short duration each year prior to harvesting. They make an amazing back drop for photographs and are an instagrammers’ dream!

The fields are a little different this year (you can see last years confetti fields here) due to being planted later – for one, the delphinium flowers are a lot shorter in height so slightly less dramatic than some of the photos you may have seen on their website. I personally found this was better for the girls, who were able to walk through the small pathways between rows of flowers in the fields without being intimidated by their height. The colours were still super vivid and bright, but this year there was also the addition of cornflowers, wildflowers and sunflowers this year too, the latter of which are my absolute favourite flower in the world. I was very excited by this and whilst I was expecting a small area, there were actually loads, all really tall and turning to face the sun!

What do I need to know if I am visiting the Real Flower Confetti Fields?

Booking is essential this year due to Covid-19 restrictions, so if you don’t have a ticket you unfortunately wont be allowed in. At the time of writing, there are lots of tickets still left for next week (w/c 10th August) and these can be booked on the website here.

Tickets are for arrival within a 1 hour time slot and stays limited to two hours – although realistically you may not stay as long as this, especially if it is a very hot day.

The route to the fields is clearly signposted with lots of banners and directions on the side of the road, and when you get close, there are lots of marshalls to point you in the right direction.

We attended at the first session of the day 10-10.50 and upon arrival were filters into lanes where our tickets were checked in the car (so print them out if you can).

Due to the confetti fields being a large open space, you are asked to take your own sanitiser with you and use it regularly. There are portaloos on site just before you go in and it can be a fairly long walk back to the car so if you have little ones you may want to go before you head in!

When you walk around the corner and see the fields ahead of you it really is a stunning sights. Rows upon rows of colours with little pathways throughout, and right at the back the familiar yellow smiles of sunflowers standing proud. These flowers were by far my favourite part of the visit and a very welcome addition from previous years.

Here are some of my favourite shots of the day.

Hints and Tips for Visiting Real Flower Confetti Co.

  • The Confetti Cafe open selling a range of drinks and tasty treats – the ice cream is lush and comes in small tubs with a spoon in the lid. I can definitely recommend the honeycomb, which comes with real chunks of crunchy honeycomb on the top!
  • The field is quite flat so can see all the way across however the ground can be really quite bumpy underfoot with gravel and some foliage still on the ground. For that reason I would recommend that children at least wear closed toe shoes. We made the mistake of putting the girls in sandals, and there was lots of stopping for moments of “there’s something in my shooooooe!”
  • There is very little shade in the fields and therefore you will be exposed to the sun. Slap on the sunscreen and take a hat if it is a hot day like today.
  • The cornflower fields at the very back tended to be much quieter than the ones at the front, and as such we were able to get lots of photos without people in the background.
  • There are a couple of gazebos near the rear of the fields where you can sit on a hay bale and catch some shade but obviously these are popular when its hot, and social distancing should be maintained.
  • There are some bees and butterflies around – so something to bear in mind if you have little ones who are a bit nervous of things that buzz.
  • Bubbles are a great distraction for the kids and help us catch some lovely shots (I am not sharing faces so can’t post them all) but using something like this gets their attention on something other than you, and avoids wallace and gromit CHEEESE faces! 🙂
  • Sunflowers are available to buy on the day and are £3 each or 4 for £12. This is not cheap, however they are ginormous and have a choice of varieties (you can select your own from display)
  • There are two different car parks on site, so remember which one you are in and where you entered the fields (we walked back to the wrong one, and it was quite a long walk back from the wrong place!)

Overall we had a lovely morning out, the numbers were busy but completely manageable (with social distancing easy to maintain). Despite getting some abuse online about the difficulty booking tickets on opening night (demand crashed the site) I think the team at the Real Flower Petal Confetti Co. have done a great job in adapting to their new way of welcoming guests.
