AD – Items gifted for review

Have you heard of Playmobil EverDreamerz? As I grew up as a child in the 80’s, I was a huge fan of Playmobil, spending hours and hours playing with my characters in my room, creating adventures, imaginary scenes and scripts. Now with two children of my own, I get to relive my own childhood memories through the girls, both of whom have become big fans of Playmobil in their own right over recent years.

We love hearing about new Playmobil releases, and so were pleased to learn that after the success fo EverDreamerz Series 1 (Candy World), Playmobil EverDreamerz are back for a second wave. Series 2 transforms the girls to the colourful dream world of Edwina – Comic World.

What are Playmobil EverDreamerz Collectables?

The Playmobil EverDreamerz are 5 best friends – Rosalee, Viona, Edwina, Clare and Starleen. They each have unique qualities, exciting stories and adventures and BIG dreams.

When the girls find a magical amulet and touch it, a portal opens into another universe, the land of their dreams.

Series 1 was Starleen’s Candy World, but in series 2, the girls enter the Comic City Dreamscape, where everything can be drawn and erased. The girls get into a bit of trouble, leading to all the colour being erased from the world. They must team up with other characters to restore the colour and save the day, despite the attempts of the Evil Lady Nightmare to try and defeat them.

Aimed at a slightly older Playmobil fan – Playmobil EverDreamerz collectible boxes aimed at children aged 7 and above, and is presumably is pitched to complete with fans of LEGO Friends, as has a similar concept of 5 friends with different personalities, hobbies and strengths. Presumably future series of Playmobil EverDreamerz will be launched to visit the lands of other characters Clare, Viona and Starleen.

There are two different products within the EverDreamerz Comic World range, including the 5 characters themselves and 12 smaller Surprise Boxes.

The Playmobil EverDreamerz Surprise Box – Comic World

The smaller Ever Dreamerz Surprise Boxes retail at £5.99 and as such make a great stocking filler or smaller gift for playmobil fans. They feature the ‘supporting’ characters of Comic World that the 5 friends meet in their mission to restore the colour.

Playmobil EverDreamerz Surprise Boxes

There are 12 different characters to collect in the Playmobil EverDreamerz Surprise Boxes including Colorista, Erazorman, Kimby and Karmela and like many surprise reveal toys, you don’t know who you are going to get until you open up the box, creating quite an exciting element of anticipation. Children will want to collect them all!

Out of the 12 possible fun characters inside, children will be desperate to get their hands on the ultra-rare Unicorn Lady and her golden pen charm!

Each box wraps open with perforated flaps to reveal an individual Playmobil character, pen accessory, trading card, colour change sticker (which changes colour when wet) and accessories.

Interestingly, the Playmobil EverDreamerz surprise boxes don’t come with a water pen (unlike the main boxes), so to make full use of the colour change stickers, you’d need to buy one of the larger main EverDreamerz character boxes to (or use a water pen from other toys and games you may have at home).

The Playmobil EverDreamerz Character Boxes

The EverDreamerz Character boxes contain one of each of the 5 main EverDreamerz friends, Rosalee, Viona, Edwina, Clare and Starleen. Unlike the smaller surprise boxes which are a lucky dip, the large character boxes are clearly marked with the name of the EverDreamerz character, so you can specifically choose the one that you want.

There are 8 surprises inside, including a child size silicone bracelet, jewellery bead and charm, collectors card, colour change sticker, magic pet, and many many accessories.

The colour change stickers change colour when painted on with the special PLAYMOBIL water pen and fade back to black and white when dry.

The Playmobil EverDreamerz collectible Character boxes retail at £14.99 each and due to the fact they contain some small parts, are recommended for children aged 7 and above.

Our Experience of Ever Dreamerz Comic World

Erin is a huge fan of unboxing, and really enjoys the element of surprise that comes with removing layers, opening blind bags and discovering what’s hidden inside. The Playmobil EverDreamerz Comic World collectible toys have lots of boxes that need to be opened to reveal the surprises inside, and unlike a lot of surprise reveal toys, there isn’t much single use plastic, with only a few small blind bags. Most of the boxes can be reused and played with – this is a real positive from my perspective and is far better for the environment.

The boxes are also really useful to safely stash away all the smaller pieces and accessories of the characters so they don’t get lost, which is another big tick from me.

Step by Step Unboxing of Playmobil EverDreamerz Comic World Characters

Here’s our step by step guide to opening your Playmobil EverDreamerz Comic World characters.

Playmobil EverDreamerz Series 2 - Comic World

To open your Playmobil EverDreamerz characters, first you need to open the perforated zip on the front of the box and peel away the front layer.

You can then slide off the cardboard outer cover and inside is a picture / poster of the character. This special character poster can be stood side by side with the others to panoramic picture scene – a nice touch in itself.

Underneath the outer wrap us a bright and colourful EverDreamerz Comic World design (which children could also colour in if they wish) and a Magical Amulet.

Open the magical amulet by pulling open the cardboard and pulling open the two small performated zips. The top will then flap down to reveal the first yellow surprise box inside. A real positive of the Playmobil EverDreamerz Collectibles is that these yellow boxes are re-useable, and therefore far less wasteful than some other surprise boxes on the market. Children should be encouraged to open these with care, sliding open the flaps of the surprise box to reveal first blind bag and collector sheet nestled inside.

The collector sheet lists with pictures the 5 different characters (Rosalee, Clare, Viona, Starleen and Edwina) that can be collected in the large boxes, and the 12 additional characters in the smaller surprise boxes including one limited edition. Children can aim to collect them all, ticking them off on the collector sheet as they go.

Inside the 1st blind bag was the EverDreamerz Character’s magic pet and a bracelet, 2 beads and a small charm (with each EverDreamerz character having a different colour bracelet and charm representing their personality).

The beads are a little tricky to get on for smaller hands, however if you squash the loop end of the silicone bracelet it makes it much easier to feed them through and into place. Adults may need to help a little with this bit, as my 7 year old wasn’t able to do this on her own.

The bracelet is pretty big and Erin has fairly slim wrists, so I believe this would fit most children of all ages.

Next you can open up the rest of the EverDreamerz Collectible Surprise box (like a book) by unpealing the sticker on the side. The box then folds open to reveal two more surprise boxes inside (one on each side).

In the first of the yellow boxes is a sheet of colour change stickers, a small sticker sheet and a blind bag.

Unlike other Playmobil kits we have experience, there aren’t any instructions in the EverDreamerz Comic World surprise boxes on where to put the stickers and to be totally honest, it wasn’t automatically clear (at least not to us) where to put these! In the end we went for an educated guess but it would have been helpful if perhaps there were small numbers showing where these were supposed to go!

Each accessories blind bag comes with some accessories based on the characters’ personality (in this case a pot of pencils and what looks like a tape measure), a comic (to which the colour change stickers can be added to create a book that children can ‘colour’ with water and bring to life later), and what looks like a flag or scroll. We weren’t really sure of the purpose of the scroll and to be honest this element later became a bit of a spare part.

The next box opens up to reveal another blind bag as well as a character sticker and collectible character card. The collector card is really shiny thick cardboard and shimmers when it moves – it would be fun if there was a little album to display these in. to show off their collection.

Inside the blind bag was the big one and the one Erin had been waiting for – our Playmobil EverDreamerz character – in this case Clare. Depending on the characters hair style (e.g. Edwina and Starleen’s pony tails and Rosalees Space Buns), there may be additional pieces of hair that need to be clicked into place. Younger children may need some assistance with this as it can be a bit fiddly to secure. This bag also comes with a pole and sign (for which the colour change exclamation sticker can be added).

The EverDreamerz Characters are really cute, with bright hair and outfits that are really fun and lots of unique and quirky elements to their clothes. On revealing the EverDreamerz Character from the blind bag, it was clear that the skirt is yet to come, as she is just in shorts and a top at first.

There are plenty more surprises to come! Lift up the flap at the top of the main box to reveal another blind bag. Inside this one was a clip on skirt (two halves that clip together when placed either side of her waist) and some more accessories, as well as a little clear plastic stand for her to stand on.

The skirt looks really cute, in this case with a POW Lichtenstein style message on the front. Again, depending on their dexterity, parents may need to help with this bit.

Finally, lift the bottom flap to reveal one last blind bag.

Inside is a Playmobil water pen and a small clip – I will be honest and say I really have absolutely no idea what this small plastic clip is for. It fits around the pen and in theory then the character could hold it, but I’m not sure why you would want to do that. We were all a little bit confused!

The water pen is very cool and Erin particularly enjoyed this part; you simply top the water pen up with some water (a bit like you would on an Aqua Doodle) and then colour over the stickers to reveal the colours below. After about a minute the water dries and the colour fades away again, almost like a secret message!

Erin really enjoyed colouring in all the stickers and adding them to the banner sign and comic book. The stickers are numbered, but again it was a bit of guesswork involved on our part on exactly where to put them!

The EverDreamerz Dolls are recommended for children aged 7 and above, however with supervision due to small parts, my youngest (4) has enjoyed playing with these too.

Our Overall Verdict of Playmobil EverDreamerz Comic World Collectables

What we loved about EverDreamerz

  • Bright bold colours and TONS of personality – with fun outfits and really creative Comic designs.
  • Super fun unboxing process that prolonged the fun and provided lots of anticipation as each layer is revealed.
  • Whilst there is some plastic blind bags involved in the unboxing of Playmobil EverDreamerz, there are also lots of re-useable cardboard elements, with many of the boxes suitable for storing the smaller pieces and accessories that come with each character. This is much more sustainable / eco friendly than many of the surprise reveal toys on the market.
  • Lots of accessories to help creative play after unboxing.
  • Colour change stickers with the water pen was a big hit with the girls.

What we weren’t quite sure about:

  • There were some accessories with the Playmobil EverDreamerz that we felt were a little unnecessary, or that we didn’t fully understand the point of – in particular the scroll and small plastic clip. Whilst the other accessories added to the play and creativity after the unboxing, these ones felt a little ‘spare’ and Erin hasn’t really interacted with these since.
  • Unlike other Playmobil items where there are very clear instructions about where the stickers are supposed to go, this wasn’t immediately obvious and I’m not confident that children at the younger age of the target group would know exactly where to stick them.

Overall, the Playmobil EverDreamerz were a big hit, and Erin is keen to collect more of the surprise box characters to add to Comic World. I am looking forward to future series which presumably will visit another 3 worlds. Exciting dreams to come!

Playmobil EverDreamerz are available to buy from the Playmobil online store and retail at £5.99 for the surprise boxes and £14.99 for the character boxes. Did you know you can also buy replacement parts for bigger Playmobil kits there too?
