Prepping for the Winter Party Season

December is now in full swing, and like many women around the country, I am starting to REALLY look forward to a few (somewhat rare) nights out with friends and family over the festive period. This year is even more exciting, as not only do I have work Christmas parties and meals out to look forward to, but my best friend who I have known since I was our first day at school is coming over to visit from Australia, meaning that we will be heading out with all the girls for some well deserved cocktails and catch ups. We only manage to get all of us together like this once a year, so it’s a great opportunity for us to all get dressed up and make the most of some much needed me time! I am literally counting down the days.
I’ve been having a bit of a try on for some of my winter party season outfits and feel like I have something for every occasion! Learn more about what I have planned below!
The Christmas Party
It’s pretty rare that I get really dressed up these days, so when I do, I tend to stick to the classics! Every girl should have a little black dress for the party season, and I love this strappy midi length bodycon dress with rouched back and sides. This style of dress is super stretchy and comfortable, and great for showing off your bum. Mine will inevitably end up doing some dancing towards the later point of the evening after the drinks have started to flow!
A visit to the German Market
Birmingham my home town is famous for its stunning German market which has over 80 different stalls selling traditional Christmas gifts as well as tempting food and drink including pretzels, schnitzels and bratwursts! As a group of friends we always head up to have some mulled wine or gluhwein and it pretty much instantly gets you into the festive spirit. It’s so beautiful with all the trees and festive lights, and has a somewhat magical feel about it!
When it comes to what to wear here however, practicality is important as its always bloody freezing! I always layer up when heading out to the markets, but this December, I’m going to wear a thick knitted jumper dress teamed up with tights and knee high boots. I love the roller neck style which I think helps accentuate the old curves and it is comfortable and casual whilst protecting me from the elements!
A meal out with Friends
When my friends come to visit, we always start the evening by heading out for a nice meal, but I need to wear something that will take me through to the early hours – what ever I choose needs to be suitable for a wine bar or club as well. I love this black chain print shirt dress with a touch of gold throughout and a basic tie at the waist. Teamed up with killer heels or boots, this luxe satin dress has adjustable sleeves, meaning I quickly change the look and feel of the outfit as the night goes on. This dress is on the shorter side, so I may need to apply a bit of fake tan – its been a while since the legs have seen that much daylight!
Visiting Friends and Family
We are a family who love to dress up smart at Christmas, even if we are only going to visit family who have seen us the day before in our loungewear and pyjamas. It’s a Christmas tradition – and whilst it might be a bit strange to some, I have to admit, I really like it! This year I’ll be wearing a full midi skirt over a fitted bodysuit. Again I love how the bodysuits accentuate your curves, whilst at the same time being super comfortable and perfect for teaming up with a variety of other choices. The bodysuits also look great with fitted skinny jeans and heels, and in classic black – you can’t really go wrong!
