REVIEW – Funko Wetmore Forest
*AD – Items sent for review
We are big fans of the POP Funko collectibles, and Erin has a number of the Disney ones in her bedroom including some from the original Frozen range. We were excited to learn that there is a brand new range of Funko collectibles launching exclusively at John Lewis called Wetmore Forest monsters, and with a variety of bright, super cute and friendly characters, we we’re looking forward to learning more!
What are the Funko Wetmore Forest Monsters?
Once upon a time in the heart of the Pacific Northwest, there is a wooded glen known as the Wetmore Forest, where rainfall is plentiful and trees are many. Among the mossy, bearded trees, shrouded in mist, live a furry band of critters called the Wetmore Monsters that come in all shapes and sizes, each with their own unique personality.
Meet the Monsters
There are 6 different characters in the Funko Wetmore Forest range as follows:
- Picklez – Picklez looks a little bit like a bunny. He has energy to burn and a gift for lightening the mood and loves a bit of good hearted mischief.
- Butterhorn – with large curly antlers, Butterhorn is a gentle monster who sees best in everyone. She loves adventure, is easily excitable and can usually be seen with her nose in a book.
- Snuggletooth – Is a natural leader, brave and determined and fiercely protective.
- Bugsy – Is the smallest of the group – an explorer and observer, he is always eager to help.
- Tumblebee – Sees the world through innocent eyes of a child, marvelling at simple beauty. Strong, loyal and generous with hugs.
- Chester – loves to solve a problem, is super curios and has a habit of taking things apart and putting them back together again!
The new range of Funko Wetmore Forest toys incude books, cuddly plush toys and a selection of traditional Funko figurines to display or play with. A range of Wetmore Forest puzzles and games are also coming soon.
Our thoughts on the Wetmore Forest Funko range
We were sent a selection of products from the Wetmore Forest range and Neve was VERY excited when the box arrived, ripping open the packaging before I even had chance to get my camera out! She is QUICK!
We were sent a Chester McFreckle vinyl figure, who looks a little bit like a reindeer with large antlers and a little freckly nose. He also has a long tail like a squirrel and big black eyes with a friendly smiling face. Neve thought he was really cute, and he is now living in pride of place on her bookshelf. I love the collectible element of Funko Pop monsters, and unlike other smaller collectibles, these are more likely to be displayed and played with as more robust and substantial in size. Neve LOVES acting out little scenes so I can definitely see her bringing her own little Wetmore Forest to life in her imagination once she has collected a few!
We were also sent one of the Wetmore Forest Books from the range – this one featured a different character Butterhorn – and the book tells the story of an adventure she goes on whilst trying to make a lovely dinner for her friend Snuggletooth.
The book is bright and colourful – I love the purple and orange colour scheme throughout, and features lots of beautiful illustrations to help bring the story to life.
Apart from some more challenging names which may be harder for younger readers to pronounce, Erin was able to read herself, and Neve enjoyed flicking through and making up her own version as she looked at the pictures! I think having the book to accompany the plush is great when giving the range as a gift, as they can cuddle as they read along and learn more about their new friend!
The story is short and pleasant, with an overall undercurrent of friendship and love, and a little bit of adventure and excitement added into the mix too!
Finally we were sent an adorable plush toy from the Funko Wetmore Forest range. Standing at about 7 inches tall, the Butterhorn is the perfect size for snuggling, and is super soft with ruffled ‘hair’ at the top by her horns which have a tactile and ribbed texture. She is the ideal size for a travel buddy, and I can easily imagine Neve nodding off on Butterhorn on our next roadtrip or holiday!
The plush comes with a little tag which explains more about her personality, almost starting off a little story so that children can use their imagination to create the rest. We learn that Butterhorn is the storyteller of the group, and loves to share the legends and stories of past and present. She is wise and knows each and every creature that roams in the Wetmore Forest by name. She even speaks the ancient language of the trees!!
Overall we think the Funko Wetmore Forest range is great. Both girls reacted really well to the products we were sent and the book was a big hit. I love the bright colours and cute characters, and they come with a great message – that it’s ok to stand out, to express yourself and to be different. Everyone is unique and it’s our individual differences that should be embraced. When it comes to the crunch, friendship and being kind is what’s important. If you ask me, that’s a pretty nice mantra to live by!
