REVIEW – The Ice Doctor for Tired Eyes

REVIEW – The Ice Doctor for Tired Eyes

I am not shy about the fact that my youngest still doesn’t sleep through the night. Far from it in fact. Despite being just days away from 18 months of age, she still wakes up multiple times a night, sometimes for a cuddle, usually for milk, but most of the time for comfort, needing my presence in her nursery to soothe her back to sleep. As a result, I don’t get a lot of shut eye, and recently shared how I cope on a maximum of five hours sleep a night.

Although I am somewhat used to the lack of sleep now, my body has definitely been put through its paces. Add in a full day in the office sitting relatively sedentary at a computer screen after being up and down like a yoyo the night before, and by the end of the day my eyes are sore, itchy and puffy, and I look pretty worse for wear by the time I get home.

I was recently approached by Feel Good Contacts to see if I would like to try their Ice Doctor Cold Eye Compress – a soothing compress that comes straight from the freezer to relax away the symptoms of a bad night’s sleep. It sounds like a much needed aid, so I very quickly agreed!

About the Product

The Ice Doctor cold eye compress is a cold eye compress, cooled in the freezer, filled with UK grown natural wheat. Available from most pharmacies and opticians as well as in the Feel Good Contacts online store, the Ice Doctor gives cooling relief to the eyelids and surrounding area, helping to reduce inflammation, swelling and general discomfort. Not only is the Ice Doctor great for reducing the symptoms of tiredness but also perfect for those who suffer from hayfever or allergies and tension headaches or migraines.

My Experience

I decided to put the Ice Doctor to the test after a busy day at work. I work in an office, and spend most of my day sat at a computer screen, without always wearing my glasses (even though I should!). Whilst I try and take regular breaks away from the screen, I do find that by the end of the day my eyes feel dry and a little sore. The night before had been a pretty standard night’s sleep for me, and by standard I mean pretty poor. I can always tell if I have slept well by whether or not I have dreamt, and I don’t think I was asleep long enough in any one block to make time for any kind of plot to form in my imagination that’s for sure!

I had popped the Ice Doctor in it’s bag, into the freezer that morning, knowing that it would be ready to use as soon as I needed it. Whilst mine had been in there for some time, the recommended minimum for effective use is around 2 hours.

The compress resembles a small face mask, similar to the kind you would place over your eyes in a bright room to block out the sunlight or to try and ensure you got an undisturbed sleep. Although clearly very cold, the fabric of the compress means that it doesn’t burn the skin or stick, but has an immediate cooling glow that spreads over the covered area. I lay with the Ice Doctor over my eyes for around 20 minutes and on removing (although the returning brightness was a shock) my eyes definitely felt very refreshed and had benefited from the experience.

I also found the experience of using the Ice Doctor quite calming – having just a few minutes to myself with no distractions, no parenting and no phone in my hand felt really really good. It’s definitely something I should do more often!!!

Overall Thoughts?

Overall, the Ice Doctor Cold Eye Compress is a simple yet clever concept, and something that I will continue to use when my eyes are feeling particularly tired and puffy. At £9.99, the fact it is re-useable as and when you needs it makes it excellent value for money.
