REVIEW – Sophie The Giraffe Organic Baby Skincare
We have recently been incorporating Sophie the Giraffe Organic Baby Skincare into our bath and bedtime routine. As you will know from our previous reviews, here at RMR we are massive fans of all things Sophie related, and so is our daughter!! Its not often a day goes by without her chomping on at least one of the products from Vulli – whether it be her Sophie teething ring or more recently Sophie’s brand new friend Fan Fan the Fawn!!
When we learnt that a new range of Sophie the Giraffe Organic Baby Skincare had been launched, we couldn’t wait to put it to the test!!!
The Products
New to the market at the time of writing, this brand new range of Organic Baby Skincare products from Sophie La Girafe Baby, offers a variety of products including body lotion, hair and bodywash, bubble bath, baby oil, protection cream and face cream.
The product range was established by a mother of two, who works with ecological and safe baby products. She has many years experience working with the world’s most renowned cosmetics brands. Inspired by Sophie the Giraffe, she applied her know how to create high quality, safe and ecological natural skincare products for children.
The Sophie the Giraffe Organic Skincare range contains high quality organic ingredients suitable for babies with sensitive skin and have been subjected to full dermatological testing to guarantee their safety. They bare the Exocert label, which guarantees that over 95% of the products ingredients are of natural origin and an ethical manufacturing process.
Prices start at £10.99.
Our Experience
We tested two products from the Sophie the Giraffe Organic Skincare range – the Baby Oil and the Hair and Bodywash.
My daughter is 9 months old and suffers from eczema, and therefore we are very particular about the products we use, for fear of causing aggravation to her sensitive skin. Until recently we have avoided using any bath products at all, but now her hair is getting longer (finally! :)), we felt it was time to start using a hair wash product as part of her bathtime routine.
The packaging of the Sophie the Giraffe Organic Skincare products is very appealing, pale white and pastel colours with a small sophie logo on the front, these are attractive products that I would be happy to have on display at the side of the bath – unlike many childrens skincare products, they are not in bright and garish colours, perhaps making them appeal more to the mummies doing the washing than the child itself!!
The Hair and Bodywash is described as a “nurturing, gentle cleanser for your child’s skin and hair, forming a rich yet subtle foam.” Featuring Oat Milk, it moisturises and conditions the hair, as well as helping to untangle knots.
When using the product, I applied a small amount (around a 2p pence size) to our hands and applied it to my daughters hair, gently massaging it till it created a lather. The lather was quick forming, yet not so foamy that it ran down her face, something which always infuriates her!! The scent was a soft and subtle fragrance, that wasn’t over bearing, yet strong enough to leave her smelling of a fresh clean baby smell even once she was dry and back in her clothes. It washed away easily, and was easy to gently rub down over her arms and chest as if applying a shower gel or bath lotion. As per the warning on the bottle, it can make the child’s skin quite slippy, so extra caution was required when getting her out of the bath!!!
After her bath, and after drying my daughter (and a quick cuddle of course) we then used the Sophie Baby Oil to lock in the moisture, with the aim of keeping her legs and arms as smooth as possible. Her legs in particular get quite dry, especially now she is attempting to work her way around the living room on those delicate little knees!!
The baby oil features “jojoba and kennel apricot oil, as well as white tea, lavender, and Nordic blueberry oil extracts to soothe and protect the skin”. Again the product smells amazing, leaving a subtle baby scent that stays on your childs skin long after the product has soaked away. It does come out of the bottle faster than I expected, so on the second application I was a little less haphazard with the applicator! A little goes a long way, and a minimal amount of product is required to cover my daughters entire body.
Most importantly for me, my daughter showed no signs of irritation whilst using the products, even when a little of the hair and body wash got close to her eyes in the bath. As a mum, the smell of these products on a warm and cosy baby fresh from the bath simply cannot be beaten!!!
Pros:
- Beautifully scented, making a post bath cuddle even more appealing than it already was!
- Attractive and mature product packaging and design, appealing to mums!
- A must for Sophie fans, the range would make a great gift for a new mum or mum to be.
- Dermatologically safe and tested for baby use, with natural ingredients suitable for sensitive skin.
- Small amount of product required at ease use, meaning that the products will last a reasonable amount of time.
- No irritation or tears from my daughter during use!!
Cons:
- The oil did come out a lot faster than I expected at first use, meaning I did get covered in a bit of oil myself! After the first application I learnt to be a little more cautious, but probably worth noting!
- With prices starting at £10.99, they aren’t cheap, and therefore we personally couldn’t afford to purchase these for every day use. However, as a treat, or as a gift, they really are a lovely product and smell amazing.
- As the packaging states, baby can become incredibly slippy when using the in bath products. This is pretty much the case with all bath products, but caution is required when taking your child out of the bath incase they attempt to get away from you more than usual!!
Overall we really love the new range of skincare from Sophie, and its great to see some more additions to her range!
