What the Girls Wore – Royal Wedding Special
This month we all seem to have caught a bit of wedding fever. Not only do we have a number of weddings and family gatherings on the agenda this Spring, but with the Royal Wedding now just days away, we are all looking forward to having an excuse to dress up in our finest, and spend some quality time together as a family.
In recent months Erin has developed a bit of an obsession with the Royal Family, waiting with excited anticipation to discover whether Katherine had a boy or a girl (she wrongly predicted girl!), and now looking forward to seeing Prince Harry marry his very own Princess. When I told her that this weekend there would be a very pretty wedding dress to look forward to on our TV screens, she actually couldn’t wait!
For the Royal Wedding on Saturday we are having a bit of a gathering with friends and giving the girls the perfect excuse to get dressed up and rock their best princess style outfits and thanks to Debenhams, they will be wearing these adorable dresses from the Baker by Ted Baker range.
Despite not even being five years of age, Erin has a bit of an obsession with weddings for quite some time; her interest starting when she was bridesmaid for her auntie and uncle when she had just turned three. She keeps on asking regularly when Daddy and I will be getting married (she could be waiting a while!!!!), and whether there are any more “marry parties to go to” – most likely because she wants to throw some confetti and spin and twirl on the dancefloor for hours far beyond her normal bedtime. It is unlikely we will see any traditional confetti at the Royal Wedding this weekend – with Kate and William opting for natural flower petals at their wedding in 2011, but if they do decide to follow this path, hopefully Meghan will be able to react a little more subtly than Erin if the blossom lands on her face!!
We have also been teaching Erin all about the Royal Curtsey and how you have to bow or curtsey if you ever meet the Queen or anyone with royal blood. I was interested to read that even after her wedding, Meghan will be expected to curtsey to her sister in law – the Duchess of Cambridge – although we have a feeling that she probably won’t in reality. I can’t really imagine they all bow and curtsey to the queen before a family Sunday Dinner either – but I guess you never know! Erin has been taking her curtseying responsibilities very seriously, practising at every opportunity.
We will be watching the ceremony at our party as it is broadcast live – the service itself is being shown on the BBC at 12pm with lots build up coverage expected beforehand!
Whilst our cakes won’t be made by Claire Ptak or be as extravagent as lemon elderflower covered in buttercream and fresh flowers, we are planning our very own little afternoon tea – think cheese and cucumber sandwiches, macaroons, cupcakes and fancy tea cups and you’d be along the right lines! đŸ™‚ I actually cannot wait!
Unlike many modern weddings children WILL be allowed at Harry and Meghan’s wedding- with around 100 local school children being invited to share their big day within Windsor castle. Of course, Katherine and William’s three children will make an appearance, with everyone looking forward to seeing their adorable outfits.
We are lucky that for the weddings we are going to this year, both girls have been invited. Whilst I completely understand couples not wanting children at their special day, or limiting them to babies in arms, there is something really special about watching the girls play together, making friends with other children in the wider family, and sharing the occasion of those close to us.
I absolutely cherish the images from when Erin was a bridesmaid, and know that William and Katherine will be absolutely beaming with pride as their children take on a principal role. Prince George will most likely serve as a Page Boy whilst Charlotte is expected to be a bridesmaid or flower girl.
Let’s hope they’re on their best behaviour, as after the wedding of Katherine’s sister Pippa, a photo of George getting told off by his Mum (for messing with her dress) went viral! It’s a hard life being a price! That said, he can’t possibly be as naughty as Erin was – when she escaped my watchful glaze for less than a minute and decided to poke her sticky fingers into the side of the beautiful wedding cake – BEFORE it was cut, leaving two rather large and rather unsightly looking holes! Thankfully I have a very understanding brother and sister in law- and far from being a bridezilla, the bride completely saw the funny side and actually found it hilarious. I’m not sure I would’ve been quite so understanding!!
Overall we are all really looking forward to seeing the announcement of her Royal Highness Princess Henry of Wales this weekend.
Whether you have a royal wedding or ‘commoner’ wedding to go to this wedding season, there are some super cute kids occasionwear outfits to chose from at Debenhams, including their in-house kids brands including Jasper Conran, RJR John Rocha and Baker by Ted Baker). Erin is wearing the Baker by Ted Baker Pink Floral Skirt Prom Dress in size 4-5 and Neve the Baker by Ted Baker White and Blue Floral Print Dress. in 18-24 months.
Are you being patriotic this weekend and celebrating the Royal Wedding?
