Valentine’s Day. Love it or loathe it, Valentine’s Day is an important date on the February calendar, and for many couples, is the one time of the year when they can happily demonstrate a bit of romance, love and affection; without fear of getting teased by their friends or mocked for being a soppy fool. In recent years, Valentine’s Day has also become quite the commercial dream, with every shop window and online store bombarding you with Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas and suggestions for Perfect Valentine’s Gifts. But what do us women really want this Valentine’s Day? Here are my pick of some alternative Valentine’s Day gifts that would most definitely put a smile on your loved ones face this February the 14th!
The gift of time…
When was the last time you spent a whole day with your partner? Just you and him? I actually can’t remember. As busy working parents, there is nearly always something else that takes up your time, from school runs and homework, to housework, washing and cooking, and by the time you climb into bed at the end of a busy day, the conversation and quality time you spend together can be pretty limited.
I think the gift of time for Valentine’s Day is really important. A day out together with no kids, no washing up – just you, you, your partner, real conversation and complete relaxation. You may even finish a whole sentence without getting interrupted!
Buyagift.co.uk have a huge range of experiences that are suitable for couples, with many of their Smartbox gifts coming with a choice of experience and location to suit. Top of my date day wish list would be the All About Us Spa Day for 2 at Malvern Spa in Worcestershire. Not only would you get the day to enjoy all their amazing state-of-the-art facilities including the indoor-outdoor hydrotherapy pool with bubble massage stations and chill out booths (which look EPIC!), but you also get to enjoy two 60 minute treatments each, selecting from a choice of programmes, including a Vinylux manicure or pedicure, a relaxing back massage or a rejuvenating bespoke facial.
Money well spent, this kind of Valentine’s Day gift would allow you to quite literally sit (or lie!) back and relax, enjoy some time together as a couple and (hopefully!) remember why you fell in love with each other in the first place!
A hot cuppa before bed….
What woman would say no to a nice cosy cup of hot chocolate before bed? But on a special day like Valentine’s Day you cant serve up just any old hot chocolate. For a hot chocolate with a difference, the Whittard Limited Edition Rhubarb and Custard flavour hot chocolate not only tastes amazing, but it comes in an beautiful shade of PINK!
In just one mug you can Instantly whisk your loved one back to memories of their childhood with this confectionery favourite treat. It comes in a beautifully packaged 350g tub for £9, and just requires warm milk to bring the gift to life.
Extra brownie points if you make it for her, and couple it up with a treat, blanket and a book!
To feel like sleeping beauty
For a really great Valentine’s Day treat, why not let your other half feel like Sleeping Beauty? Treat her to not only a long undisturbed lie in, (where the children are no where to be seen) but some gorgeous new sleep cami set to relax in too?
Pretty You London have just the ticket, with their latest addition to their Bamboo range – a gorgeous cami short set. Perfect for the spring and summer months (which will be here before you know it!), the cami features a contrasting piping trim, and a beautiful satin bow. Super soft and lexurious, eco friendly, hypoallergenic and adapting to her body’s temperature as she sleeps, this will be the perfect gift to give her the gift us women are all longing for – that ellusive good night’s sleep!
The Bamboo cami short set is available in sizes 8-16 from Pretty You London and retails at £39.99.
Baking from the heart…
The saying the way to their heart is through their stomach doesn’t just go for the men! I love baking, but its always me who is doing it… if Mike was to present me with something he had baked himself I would be over the moon! He could get the kids involved, let them help decorate it and even if the icing was a little runny or rustic, it would still show that some real thought had gone into my gift!
This amazing NordicWare tiered heart bundt cake pan is the ideal way to make an impressive valentines statement for the one you love. Drizzled with white icing and dried raspberry; accompanied with some fresh fruit, this would make the perfect centerpiece for a romantic dinner for two!
We will be making our own very soon – look out for a photo of our finished masterpiece over on Instagram very soon!
