Attic Conversion- Will it Work in My Home and What Are it’s Uses?
This is a collaborative post
Are you considering a loft conversion? Then you’ve come to the right place. In this article we’re going to help you decide whether your home is suitable and the potential your new loft has. All while you may be chomping the bit to make use of your attic conversion, sometimes deciding on how to decorate can be the trickiest bit!
Lofts don’t usually tend to get as much love and attention as the rest of our home, with it being used for storage for the Christmas tree or a guest room that’s used once in a blue moon. But your loft actually has a lot of potential, with no clear guidelines or rules on how it should be used. Clear out that unused clutter and unlock its potential!
Loft conversions are a fantastic way of making the most out of your home and have become very popular in modern homes.
Is My Home Suitable?
Before we get too carried away telling you about decorating and the uses for your attic, you have to ensure
your attic is suitable for the conversion.
You need to make sure your loft is actually high enough to make the conversion. Even if you’re sure it is, it’s still worth consulting an architect and builder before making any changes. Be sure to check there’s nothing in the way such as a chimney stack or grooves in the wall. We’d also highly recommend checking your roof doesn’t need doing first. The last thing you want is to redo your attic then find out your roof needs redoing and you’ve wasted your money!
Walls & Floors
A big part of every room! Since nearly everything is going to be ripped out and changed, it’s very likely that you’ll need new floors and to redecorate the walls! A good way to minimise disruption and get things done as quickly as possible is to choose your flooring before you begin.
There are so many flooring choices available that it’s hard to know where to start! Wood flooring is a traditional
choice, offering stability as well as beauty. You’re not short of options with wood either, with there being many wood types, finishes, plank arrangements and colours available.
If you’re planning on installing under-floor heating, then make sure you go for engineered wood as solid is not
compatible with this feature. Luxury Vinyl Tiles and laminate are good contenders, offering easier maintenance
at a cheaper price and often replicate natural products very convincingly.
What can I use my loft conversion for?
As previously discussed, the attic can be used for almost anything, from a guest room, storage, office or even
playroom. Most of us lust after a peaceful retreat, away from the clutter and heftiness of the kitchen and from the kid’s screams and shouts in the living room!
Many loft conversions are used as a quiet room, with it being out the way of the living room – no fighting over the remote, a quiet place to get lost in a book. This is the perfect opportunity to invest in those fancy cushions you’ve always wanted, expensive breakable ornaments you wouldn’t dream of putting where the kids play.
On the other hand, you could dedicate the room to your children. We can guarantee that your kids are going to
love your attic conversion, whether that be a playroom or bedroom. A teenager will especially love it, a den away from the rest of the house. The low ceilings are perfect for putting in swinging chairs and even include beanbags, cushions and fancy wall décor.
Another common use for an attic conversion is a guest room. What better way to spoil your guests than set them up in a luxurious attic conversion with an en suite? Keeping your guests away from the noise of the rest of the house so they can enjoy a good night’s sleep away from early risers!
Attics are a great place for storage too, with tucked away cupboards to store spare bedsheets without looking
cluttered.
Of course, your attic conversion is there for you to do as you please with. Not only are they stylish and modern but are also a great use of space that you’ll never get bored of!
What will you do with yours?
