Cards the Universe and Everything (CUE Cards) REVIEW

Cards the Universe and Everything (CUE Cards) REVIEW

*AD – This post is in collaboration with CUE Cards

We are now into our 4th week of lockdown, and like many parents across the UK, we are trying (at times with much difficulty!) to balance working from home, running our own businesses, and childcare / home education for two young children. We are a tech-friendly family and whilst I am comfortable with the girls using iPads and tablets whilst we are at home, I am also keen to ensure that their screen time is not only at a healthy level, but using apps and games that provide both education and entertainment.

Both my children are hands on, practical learners and I find their willingness and response to learning is far higher when they can have some fun along the way.

I recently got introduced to Avid Games’ Cards The Universe and Everything (CUE Cards for short), a mobile based collectible card game for children aged 6+. Not only is CUE Cards a fast paced card battle game to play with friends, but is packed full of fun facts and trivia that helps children learn huge amounts of brand new information as they play. We decided to put CUE Cards to the test with Erin to see what she could discover!

The CUE Cards Battle Arena

For children with a curious mind who are wanting to stay in touch with school friends during lockdown, CUE Cards is a great place to start. An app for both iOS and Android devices, CUE Cards can be played from the comfort of their homes and help school friends stay connected and play together even when they are physically apart!

Children can collect a wide range of unique CUE cards packed full of easy to digest fun facts and trivia about almost ANY subject, including science, space and history. With a real emphasis on Culture and STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and maths) which I found a HUGE positive, children will learn as they play, developing a wide breadth of knowledge about well – quite literally the universe and everything!

Starting with an initial welcome pack of cards, players must use skill and tactics to compete with others across the globe or battle with friends (who can be added by unique user name if provided by friends) in the CUE arenas. Games are played in 5 rounds, and the first player to get to 3 wins the battle.

The cards in your pack will determine how good a ‘hand’ you have to play with. The majority of cards are common, but others are Rare, Epic and Legendary and there are special cards to give you extra energy and strength. The better your cards energy and power attributes the more chance you have of beating your opponent!

Children can compete in weekly CUE leagues against friends to collect trophies and climb the leaderboard, which allows them to win prizes and bonus points which can be used to collect more cards and increase the range within their pack.

Learning through Play

What we loved most about CUE Cards was not only the battle element itself, but the fact that each card has fun facts and trivia on the rear, and they are written in a really funny and entertaining way which is sure to raise a few laughs too.

Whilst playing CUE Cards, children are guaranteed to learn something new. For example did you know:

  • Sea otters are members of the weasel family
  • Blue sharks can grow up to 13 feet long!
  • Tornados can reach speeds of up to 300 miles per hour.
  • The name Poodle derives from the German word “Puddel” (Puddle) because they are strong swimmers!
  • Baby koalas are fed poo(!) by their parents as it helps them digest eucalyptus later in life!
  • Santa Maria was the flagship of Christopher Columbus and the first voyage to America.

Trading / Collecting Cards

The trading and collecting element of CUE Cards is what makes it really fun and for children who absolutely love collectibles, swaps and the chase to complete a set, this is something that will really capture their attention.

In their mission to increase their card collection, children have the ability to trade cards with friends in a safe environment in the CUE Cards Basecamp. They can say which cards they are seeking and post any extras they have collected along the way to trade, making offers for cards you want to collect.

New cards are also released daily, with announcements appearing to alert players and encourage them to hunt for them!

Want a helping hand in your CUE Battle?

CUE Cards is a great game which can be enjoyed for free without the requirement for in app purchases (although there is the option to do this). You can purchase additional coins and gems to help earn cards but you can also earn coins in battles and by completing daily challenges.

Gems can also be won 3 times a day by using the reward spinner (think wheel of fortune!) which you can then trade in for additional pack purchases and more cards to add to your collection.

Thanks to the team at Avid Entertainment we have an exclusive CUE Code to reward you with some extra goodies to get you started. Why not share on your schools what’s app group and get all the class mates to link up together?

By adding the code ‘REALMUM’ players will receive:

• 1 Rare card
• 1 Epic card
• 1 Legendary card
• 150 Gems
• 20,000 Coins
Overall we’ve had lots of fun playing CUE Cards, and Erin has really enjoyed competing on the leaderboard against her cousins who have recently downloaded the app too. If you are looking for some fun ‘guilt free’ screen time for your kids that will help improve their general knowledge through play, and is likely to get VERY little resistance from your kids, then CUE Cards is a great place to start!
You can download CUE Cards on the Apple Store and Google Play here.
