Have you been tempted by the Dyson Hot + Cool Fan Heater? With us all living right in the middle of a cost of living crisis, we are all looking for alternative ways to heat our homes and keep warm this winter.

I now work from home 3 or 4 days a week and as such, I am investing in products now that will help me keep warm and reduce the need to run my central heating. I never thought we’d be here as a country in 2022, but here we are. Last year we had a garden office installed at the end of the garden with underfloor heating, which felt like a wonderful solution at the time.

With the cost of energy rising by the day, we’ve been looking for alternative and cheaper ways to heat the room whilst it’s in use so that I can remain comfortable whilst working from home, without incurring a huge bill in the process. I decided to consider a Dyson Hot + Cool Purifying Fan Heater and despite the price tag, a Dyson Heater seemed to be a good solution.

We’re familiar with the Dyson brand, having used some of the Dyson vaccum in our home now for a number of years, I’ve also seen the Dyson bladeless fans and tower air coolers in lots of offices and retail outlets in the past and they always seem to come well-rated in consumer reviews. I did find looking at the wide range of Dyson Heaters a bit over whelming, but we decided to bite the bullet and order the Dyson Pure Hot + Cool, which whilst an extravagant purchase with a high price tag, we hope will be worth the initial investment,

If you’re looking for an alternative way to heat your home this Winter, or a more affordable choice than running your underfloor heating, here’s what you need to know about the Dyson Pure Hot + Cool Purifying Fan Heater.

What is the Dyson Pure Hot + Cool Purifying Fan Heater?

The stylish looking Dyson Pure Hot+Cool™ is a 3 in one product – a heater, a fan and an air purifier, all in one, making it a handy product to have in your home from Summer through to winter – useful all year round. It heats with thermostatic control in colder weather and cools your surroundings in warmer weather, but also catches particles in the air using the 360° Glass HEPA filter, which can filter out alergens and pollutants in the room too.

Dyson Hot & Cool Review: What are the main features?

Style

The Dyson Pure Hot + Cool Purifying Fan Heater isn’t just style over substance but granted, it looks pretty awesome in your home. The classic white and silver design is modern and sleek with the open bladeless  loop design which will be familiar if you’ve ever seen the Dyson Pure Cool Air fan in offices or retail outlets.

Flexibility

The Dyson Hot + Cool Fan Heater is a tower fan, so it’s designed to sit upon a desk or table and can be tilted or rotated as required. It comes with a long cord legnth of 1.8m, so can easily be positioned near to a socket, even when they’re located a little further away.

The lower half of this Dyson heater is a weighty cylinder that is covered in small holes. It’s a decent size, with dimensions of 632 x 154 x 112 mm (H x W x D) and weighs around 3.9kg, which whilst not heavy, can be a little fiddly to carry due to its rather unique shape.

Personal heating or room heating

When working from home, you can choose from either a focused jet or widen the range, The Jet Focus option is ideal for long range personal heating – perfect for when sitting at a desk, whilst the wider range can be used to heat the whole room (up to 16.529m²) at a fairly impressive speed. You can also opt to oscillate up to 70 degrees, which is ideal in a shared space or if there is more than one person to keep warm in the room. If you want the air flow to be really focused on your face or torso, you can even tilt the entire unit forward and back to find the perfect angle for you.

Simple operation

The Dyson Hot + Cool Purifyng Fan Heater can be operated either directly on the base of the heater itself or via remote control. The control is magnatized too, and fits safely against the top of the fan heater when not in use. A great little feature that can prevent the remote from getting lost.

The LED digital display shows your temperature setting clearly (which can range from lows of zero degrees to highs of up to 37).

Air Filtration

The Dyson Hot + Cool Fan Heater has a filtration rate of 99.95% – removing allergens and improving air quality in the room – something which is also good for your overall health and well being when working from home.

How noisy is the Dyson Pure Hot + Cool Purifying Fan Heater?

Noise level during use is between 35 and 62db, the latter being when used on the highest level setting and heating options. There are ten levels to choose from, and the higher the level the louder the fan heater is during use. I find that during TEAMS calls I need to lower down the strength otherwise this can be a little noisy, but lower settings run with just a low hum – certainly no louder than a traditional fan or heater.

How does it compare to other Dyson Heater models?

Our particular Dyson Fan Heater is the Dyson HP01 – some other newer models are available including the Dyson HP02 (with Dyson Link App) HP04 (for larger rooms) and HP06 which appear to offer great ossilation benefits and the ability to heat up larger room settings. This particular fan is not a Dyson Link Model – so it doesn’t come with the ability to control via the Dyson App on your phone or smart device.

How does the Dyson Pure Hot + Cool compare to the Dyson AM09?

This is not the same device as the Dyson AM09, as it comes with the purification benefits too. The Dyson AM09 is a more basic heat and cool fan heater but does not purify the air or remove allergens from your work environment. If you have asthma, pets, allergies or get affected by dust and mould spores, it’s certainly worth paying the extra for the HP models.

How much does the Dyson Pure Heater cost to run?

In heating mode, it can use a fairly significant wattage load of around 2090 W (which costs around 75p an hour on current rates) but it’s worth noting that you generally wont need it to be left on at all times. In a well-insulated space, I found that I was able to turn it off after a relatively short period of time as the room held the heat well.

How much does the Dyson Pure Hot + Cool Purifying Fan Heater retail at?

The Dyson Hot and Cool Purifying Fan Heater costs £399 – and is available at the following outlets – please note stock is selling fast, but you can click through and sign up for stock alerts. It’s a big initial investment, but comes with a manufacturer guarantee of 2 years which is great for peace of mind.

Is the Dyson Pure Hot + Cool Purifying Fan Heater worth the money?

Probably the biggest question you’re going to want to know is, is the Dyson Pure Hot + Cool fan heater worth the money? We’ve obviously not had it long but based on our experience so far I would say yes. I love the fact it can stay out all year round (no more lugging giant fans in and out of the loft) and can be used to cool down the room in Summer and heat it up in Winter. It’s simple to operate, looks great and heats very well indeed. This, combined with thermal clothing and my Oodie on hand for extra cold days, should certainly allow me to reduce the reliance upon the underfloor heating.

Dyson Hot & Cool Review – Pros:

  • Looks modern and stylish
  • Versatile option for both Summer and Winter (heats and cool)
  • Air purification benefits including removal of allergens and bacteria in my work space.

Dyson Hot & Cool Review – Cons:

  • At high heat / power, it can be quite noisy, so I do find myself turning it off during TEAMS calls
  • Expensive initially
  • Not the most portable of fans
