Harnessing the Power of Nature with Regatta

Harnessing the Power of Nature with Regatta

AD – This post is in collaboration with Regatta

We’ve always been a family that loves spending time in the Great Outdoors, but over the last 18 months in particular we have spent more time outside than ever before, whether that’s exploring our local woods, going on scavenger hunts, visiting flower fields or simply scooting around our local park.

When times are tough, spending time in the fresh air has been just the tonic we all needed, allowing us to connect as a family, spend quality time together away from screens, create a much needed change of scenery and perhaps most importantly, reduce our stress levels and look after our mental health.

Some of my fondest memories of lockdown were the days we spent together as a family exploring the beauty of our natural surroundings, discovering places on my doorstep that I never even knew existed!

Regatta recently launched their Harnessing the Power of Nature Campaign, which is all about helping families discover new and exciting activities you can do together in the great outdoors – whether that’s in your own back garden or even further afield.

You can check out some of Regatta’s suggested activities here; (Fireside Story Telling, Natural Artwork and Stargazing sound right up our street), but here are some of the other ways we intend to spend time together outdoors as a family this Summer.

Embrace the beauty of florals

It’s no secret that I am a big fan of a flower field (a blogger right of passage perhaps) but I am lucky enough that the girls love it too. From lavender to confetti, poppies to sunflowers, we are lucky enough to have some amazing flower fields on our doorstep and we love to visit them all!

Watching the sunset

By far my favourite moment of the first lockdown was watching the sunset over the sunflower fields with my daughter. We took our cameras and headed down to the fields just before sunset, sat watching as the sun slowly crept behind the clouds. Not only did my daughter enjoy staying up late but it allowed us to spend some real quality time together just the two of us with no tv, no tech – just a Mum and her daughter in the great outdoors. These photos I will cherish forever!

Nature’s Artwork

We love creating art out of items we have collected on our walks – my youngest is only four, but give her a bag or a basket to collect hidden treasures and she will walk so much further without getting tired! We love creating fun pieces of artwork with the items we collect – our nature’s ballet dancers were a firm favourite!

Whatever the weather throws at us (whether that’s this weeks heatwaves, torrential rain or artic breezes, one thing is for certain, the options are pretty much endless and I will certainly be continuing to make the most of outdoor spaces for the foreseeable future!

What outdoor activities do you enjoy with your family?
