How to Make Your Home Perfect for Summer

This is a collaborative post

The summer may seem a long way off, but it will be here in no time. This makes now the perfect time to start making preparations for the arrival of those long sunny days. Preparing your home ready for the start of the summer will allow you to make the most of the warmer weather once it arrives and not waste a single day of sunshine. There are so many different ways to make your home summer-ready. Below you will find many ideas to help you make the best of the summer and enjoy lots of quality time at home during the sunniest season.

Here are some ideas to help you get your summer preparations started:

Insect-Proof Your Home

Many people love to see butterflies fluttering around their gardens and bees hard at work gathering pollen amongst the flowers. But few people like to find other insects, such as flies and mosquitos, inside their homes. Unfortunately, flies and other insects entering the house is a common problem in the summer. While the rising temperatures may make you want to leave your doors and windows open to bring in some cooler air, the thought of insects evading your home may put paid to this idea. Having insect screens installed on your doors as part of your summer preparations is an excellent way to keep bugs out of your home and help you focus on enjoying your summer.

Get Ready for Outdoor Entertaining

One of the best things about the summer is being able to entertain family and friends in your garden. Everyone loves a spot of alfresco dining; garden parties and barbeques are the perfect way to spend a summer evening. Starting your entertainment preparations early means you can plan to enjoy those long summer evenings as soon as they begin. One of the first things you must do as part of your preparations is to clean your garden furniture. After being unused for months, your garden furniture is probably in need of some TLC. Cleaning up your outdoor table and chairs should get them looking good again, but if they are wooden, you may also want to treat the wood to weatherproof it.

As well as cleaning up the garden furniture, it is also a good idea to check your barbeque and clean it if necessary. With your table and chairs cleaned and your barbeque prepared, you will be ready for lots of fun this summer.

If you have outdoor play equipment like slides and swings, give them a wipe down and clean, remove cobwebs and bring out play toys like moon shoes and the giant connect four to encourage the kids to spend more time outside.

Spruce up the Garden

As summer approaches, it is the perfect time to show your garden some care and attention, ready for you to spend more time outdoors. Basic garden maintenance tasks such as weeding and tidying up the lawn can make a big difference and help your backyard to look in pristine condition. But if you fancy brightening up your garden, planting some extra flowers and plants is a great idea. Choosing flowers such as campanulas and sweet peas that bloom all summer is a great way to enjoy colour throughout the season.
