Little Leaps – 10/3 – Neve’s Half Year & Erin’s Big Girl Bed!
Welcome to the next instalment in the Little Leaps Linky – recording my children’s milestones, accomplishments and developmental leaps. This fortnight is all about Neve’s half year birthday and Erin’s big girl bed achievement! 🙂

Neve’s Half Birthday
I can hardly believe I am writing this, the time has gone so fast. My baby girl, my second daughter and the little lady who completed our family turned 6 months old this week. That half a year appears to have passed by in the blink of an eye, and I can’t believe I am over half way through my maternity leave already. That said, my 3 week stay in the hospital feels like a lifetime ago, and Neve has blended into our family so well that I simply cannot imagine life without her.
She has made some huge developmental leaps over the last few weeks. Here are just a few!
Rolling
Neve has generally been a fairly laid back character and to date hadn’t done that much ‘movement’ apart from thrashing her legs around when lying on her back. Over the last week, she has learnt to grab her feet and pull her own socks off (her new favourite game), and hold on to her feet whilst rocking from side to side. She loves playing on the play mat and is really focusing on reaching out and grabbing her toys.
Eating
Our weaning journey has now begun, albeit very slowly. I am a bit of a tentative weaner so we have just started her off with a few simple tastes so far. At the moment, she seems quite confused by the process, and hasn’t seemed particularly happy about any of the flavours we have offered her. It’s a big change from the breast milk only diet she is used to, so I’m not going to rush her into anything. She seems super happy sat in her high chair though and very proud of herself when sat at the same height as us! 🙂 I am praying she beings to enjoy the foods we offer her over the next few weeks – we will be doing a combination of puree and baby led weaning.
Sleep
Probably the less said about this the better, as her sleep is still fairly horrific. She hasn’t been quite right on the sleep front since her short stay in hospital, but fingers crossed this is just a short term phase. Thank god for #nightfeednatter on Twitter!
Erin’s Big Girl Bed
Those of you who read the blog regularly will know that we recently implemented a Reward Chart for Erin, with the aim of encouraging her to stay in her own room all night without calling for Daddy to sleep on the floor. Well this week after just over a month, Erin reached the last step on her chart and earned her reward – her very own cabin bed for her bedroom. She was so super excited.
To say well done, we took her to out for lunch and to our local park, before going to look at the options in a bed showroom. We chose a fantastic cabin bed with a ladder, under bed desk and plenty of storage. It was perfect.
Erin was more concerned about the Frozen duvet cover that was on one of the other beds in the showroom, and couldn’t get her head around the fact that all the beds could have whatever bedding she liked.
We are now entering the “Project Nursery” phase, clearing out the box room for Neve’s. When Erin’s big girl bed arrives in a few weeks time, Neve will have Erin’s cot bed. We have a LOT of work to do, but Erin is super excited to be getting involved, choosing her own carpet and wall colours.
I feel stupidly emotional about Erin moving into a single bed as it feels like another step away from her baby years. That said, she was a little jealous of her sister’s Gro Bag this evening so the inner baby is still there somewhere!! 🙂 She is very Pro Daddy at the moment, and loves nothing more than a pre bed time snuggle!
Overall, we’ve had a great couple of weeks, and the girls are growing up fast!
What leaps have your little ones made recently? I’d love to read all about them! 🙂
