My Favourite Festive Movies

My Favourite Festive Movies

*AD This is a collaborative post

It’s no secret that I love Christmas. I love snuggling down in the living room under a blanket with the girls and watching some festive family favourites. We turn the lights off, and have just the comforting glow of our Christmas Tree lights in the corner of the room whilst we all tuck into a bowl of popcorn and I roll out some of the Classic Christmas movies.

Deck the Halls

One for the laughs – we all know how competitive people can get at Christmas. From the most elaborate Christmas Traditions, the biggest tree, the most fancy wrapping paper. It’s relentless. But nothing comes close to the competition between these two neighbours who compete to have the best decorated house at Christmas time. Will his Christmas decorations be seen on google earth? He’s up for the challenge! With an all star cast including Danny DeVito, Matthew Broderick and Kirstin Davis, this one definitely makes my festive watch list!

Jingle All the Way

Howard is a busy business man, and is so busy focusing on his job that he doesnt always pay enough attention to his family, in particular his son Jamie. He is constantly disappointing him, missing his karate exposition, and despite being asked to pick up a Turbo man doll for his MONTHS ago, Howard forgets. Suddenly its Christmas Eve and Howard starts a desperate mission to find one, only to find they are sold out EVERYWHERE.

Will Howard let down his son yet again, or will he be able to lay hands on this Christmas’s most popular toy!?

Action packed and heart warming with lots of laughs and a surprisingly emotional performance by good old Arnie – this is definitely one for the whole family to enjoy!

Home Alone

We recently introduced the girls to Home Alone, and it was unexpectedly a real hit. No matter how many times I see Home Alone it NEVER gets old. Released in 1990, Home Alone tells the story of Kevin – an 8 year old boy who must protect his home from burglars when he is accidentally left at home when his parents go on holiday.

With lots of laugh out loud moments including the aftershave scene, the pizza scene (“Keep the change you filthy animal” and lots of makeshift booby traps, Home Alone also comes with an added benefit. No matter how much I may feel like a bad Mother at times, I have never “forgotten” a child or left my children to fly in economy whilst I chill out in first class! 🙂

I am yet to meet ANYONE who hasn’t seen Home Alone, but in case you haven’t – definitely add this one to your list.

A Christmas Carol

Another absolute must at Christmas is the story of Ebenezer Scrooge – a hard nosed, cruel business man who is focused on one thing alone – making money. As a result of this single minded approach, Ebenezer treats everyone around him with contempt and has no real friends. In an attempt to teach him the true spirit of Christmas, Ebenezer is visited by three ghosts on Christmas Eve – the spirits of past, present and future, who encourage him to change his mean and mean actions before it is too late.

A heart warming tale with a deeper moral – be kind, always.

Miracle on 34th Street

As a child growing up I must have watched this film a hundred times. I loved it. This 1994 remake of the 1947 original. Miracle on 34th Street tells the tale of a older gentleman in New York that honestly believes that he is Santa Claus and is hired by Macy’s but he runs afoul of the establishment psychiatrist that wants him institutionalized in a mental facility. It comes down to 6 year old Susan (who was doubting whether Santa was really real), to prove that he really is the real Santa Claus. An absolute timeless classic.
