Num Noms Easter Baking Challenge

I absolutely love the Easter bank holiday – the chance to spend 4 days off work with my family, enjoy some time together at home and in the garden or head out on mini adventures in the great outdoors. Of course, I’d be lying if I said we didn’t indulge in a little chocolate too – Erin in particular is a big fan of baking together, so when we were set an Easter baking challenge by the team at Num Noms she was more than happy to oblige, and her little sister of course wanted to help out too!
Our challenge was to create Easter Egg Bark – with milk and white chocolate melted into a bark and topped with crumbled mini eggs. It sounded simple enough (I can’t claim to be a master baker!) and with a very simple list of ingredients and minimal equipment required, it sounded like something that even I could manage to help the girls create without too much difficulty!
The first challenge was to get our hands washed and dress appropriately, and Neve was super excited to be wearing her very own little chef’s hat for the morning! Erin meanwhile got to style it out in her very own Num Noms apron!
Daddy had been to the shop and got a very random selection of milk and white chocolate for us for the base of our Easter Egg Bark so we were pretty quickly ready to go. First we greased a tin and added some parchment paper so that it was easy to remove and didn’t stick.
The girls then had the task of breaking up the chocolate into small squares – which may sound easy, but as it was quite a warm day it resulted in a lot of very chocolatey fingers, and the majority of the time was spent with me trying to stop Neve from eating it straight from the bar! Little madam!
Next we melted the milk chocolate over a pan of hot water (I didn’t take any snaps at this point because I had to be careful to ensure that the girls didn’t burn their fingers, so definitely parent supervision required!). Once melted we poured the liquid chocolate into the tray and spread it around with a spatula to create a flat ‘bark’. We then repeated this with the white chocolate, and used a cocktail stick to swirl it into the milk chocolate and create a marble like effect.
Finally, whilst trying to stop Neve from dipping her fingers into the bark or eat the mini eggs straight from the bowl, we bashed up a bag of Mini Eggs and sprinkled them over the top. The bark looked amazing, and after popping it in the fridge for a couple of hours to set, we cracked it into small shards which I can confirm tasted absolutely delicious!
After all that hard work, we decided to sit down and check out some of the products we had been sent from the new Num Noms range, including the Num Noms Mystery Make Up Surprise, Num Noms Mystery Packs and Num Noms Sparkle Smoothies.
The Mystery Make Up Surprises were a big hit with Erin, with adorable little characters each holding their own make up surprise, in this case a pink nail polish and a golden eye shimmer. Erin was able to simply twist the characters head or flip open the top to reveal the make up surprise hidden inside.
A little different to the Num Noms we have experienced before, the Mystery Packs (wrapped up in red foil like a giant sweet) all featured characters with their own super fluffy hairstyles! Each pack contained a single scented Num Noms character with one or two tufts of colourful fluffy hair which can be combed, fluffed and styled. The hair can also be removed and swapped to different characters, or even used as a fluffy pencil topper if prefered!
