Our Spooky Halloween Party

Our Spooky Halloween Party

I absolutely love Halloween, having celebrated it with my own family ever since I was a very young girl. I have such fond memories of big halloween parties at my neighbours house growing up, and now that I’m a Mum myself, I want to make sure the girls have similar experiences. This year was my favourite yet. We had so much fun getting both girls dressed up for a big party at my sisters house – and Erin really got into the spirit of it this year, getting into her character (a scary pumpkin) and taking her role very VERY seriously! (

My poor niece looks terrified in the photo below – bless her!!)

Planning a Halloween party can take quite a bit of work, but thanks to Party Pieces, the preparation was very straight forward and we found everything we needed all on one site – from wall decorations, table arrangements and party games, they really had it covered!

With some younger children attending we went for a theme that wouldn’t be too scary for the little ones – with friendly smiling pumpkins ghosts and skeletons as opposed to a full on monster or ghoul. We made sure our table was bright orange, and sprinkled mini spiders all over, as if they had escaped from some giant web hidden in the distance.

The contrast of the orange and black looked fantastic. Luckily for me, my sister is also great at baking, so we used the fabulous spooky cake stand and the fun character party picks as cake toppers to give our spread a really ghoulish theme.

We also had these fun bat cups with fold out wings, which made drinking vampires blood (cherryade) even more exciting for the children! 🙂

We turned the whole of my sister’s lounge and dining room into a giant Halloween lair, with these giant 3D BOO balloons on the fire place (no helium required!!) and the keep out sign hanging from the door that the children had to enter through.

The outfits were great, and some of the children really went to town. Erin wore her pumpkin outfit whilst Neve spent her first Halloween dressed as a little skeleton.

For the adults, who might not have been so keen to dress up, we had a range of Halloween themed photo booth props (a party just isn’t complete without them!!), this meant that even the most grumpy of halloween guests (aka Daddy) could be snapped with a photo and get into the party spirit.

The Games

Party Pieces had a huge range of Halloween games but the ones that went down the best with the children were Pass the Pumpkin and the Pumpkin Pinata. Pass the Pumpkin, as the name might suggest, is a bit like pass the parcel – and involves passing around a small pumpkin and peeling off a layer of its ‘skin’ (tissue paper) every time the music stopped on you. Inside were small treats and jokes, and there were a LOT of layers, so even with a large group of children they all got more than one turn at unwrapping. I, on the other hand, hated having the responsibility of remembering who hadn’t had a turn – anything to avoid the squabbles!

The pumpkin Pinata was also LOADS of fun, with the children taking it in turns to whack the pumpkin as hard as they could, in order to try and reveal the mass of sweets and goodies that we had hidden inside. It took a LOT of attempts (I’m not sure their strength levels at 4 and 5 were quite up to scratch), but with a bit of help from some of the Daddies to start them off, the sweeties were soon tumbling out on to the floor – queue a mass scramble of little hands!!

Overall the party was a huge success, and we all had a fantastic time. No party would be complete without a proper party bag to take home, and these mini treat pumpkins were ideal, with just enough room for a few packets of sweets, trick or treat style.

If you’re planning a Halloween party next year, I couldn’t recommend enough – good value for money, excellent quality, and a huge range to suit every theme possible.

Thanks for helping us host a party the children will remember for years to come!

Happy Halloween!
