LOL Surprise! Movie Maker App REVIEW

My girls are absolutely huge fans of LOL Surprise! There is something incredibly addictive about these surprise reveal dolls and characters and over the years the girls have collected quite an extensive collection of LOL dolls, pets, sisters and even the biggie pets (Erin’s personal favourites).

The physical and online LOL worlds have recently collided with the exciting release of a brand new FREE LOL Surprise! Movie Maker app. As well as playing with their dolls, the girls love nothing more than to watch YouTube stars playing with theirs (something I could never quite get my head around!). They love watching other children act out little scenes with their dolls and can often be seen doing something similar – with exclamations of ‘hey guys, welcome to my channel’. It’s cute, but their vlog filming footage leaves a little to be desired!

Thanks to the LOL Surprise! Movie Maker App, the girls can now take to the directors chair and create, record and star in their very own LOL Surprise! movies right from the comfort of the sofa!

How does the LOL Surprise! Movie Maker App work?

Children can quickly and easily create their very own LOL Surprise movie choosing from a range of backgrounds, characters, props and even music tracks.

By pressing record they can then capture the voice over as they move the characters around the screen, acting out scenes and creating multiple frames to bring their movies to life.

Every day they return to the app, they will receive a new surprise ball which unzips on screen with a character inside to unlock and reveal as well as new backgrounds and accessories to help them create their favourite outfit of the day! #ootd

The more videos they create, the more coins they can earn to exchange for more surprise balls!

How does the LOL Surprise! Movie Maker work?

The LOL Surprise! Movie Maker app allows children to pick the background, character and accessories to mock up in your movie. When you first log in to the app you are initially given 2 characters, one background and 1 music track to choose from but earn more the more you play as well as through daily surprise ball rewards.

Erin found the app very user friendly and intuitive, pretty quickly figuring out how to navigate around the app and move the characters into place. First you set up the scene how you like, dragging the characters and accessories around into your desired positions.

When you have the first scene of your movie set up and ready to go, you press the big record button, and begin the voice over. It records your audio (which can be over background music too) and you can move the characters around and ‘act out’ the drama on screen.

When you have finished the first scene press stop.

You can then create next scene, changing the location backdrop, or simply rearranging characters before you start again.

Once you are ready, press record and it counts down from 3 before it starts recording again.

Once your whole movie is complete you press the finish flag, which then brings up a movie clapperboard where you can give your movie a name and note the name of the creator.

You can then play your movie back and send to friends.

The more videos you create the more coins you earn, every 1000 coins earns you a capsule which can be unzipped and unboxed to reveal lots of new scenes, characters and accessories

The Girls’ Verdict

The LOL Surprise! Movie Maker app is super easy to use and within minutes the girls had figured out how to record and create their videos. One of their first involved a LOL Pet getting crushed by a giant cookie and its been so funny watching their videos back – they have even downloaded them and send then on to friends! They loved the unveiling of the new surprise balls, with lots of squeals when they revealed a new character or pet.

From a parents perspective, I love the fact that there are daily rewards without needing to spend a penny and that even at the beginning when the characters were restricted, the girls were still able to have lots of fun. As such, although there are in app purchases (which you may want to use if they are trying to get a particular character), it doesn’t prevent you too much from progressing through or enjoying the game.

Overall I think the LOL Surprise! Movie Maker app is a fun, creative and engaging app which is ad free and perfect for those who want to embrace their inner director.
