REVIEW – PJ Masks Lights & Sounds Robot
As my regular readers will know, Erin has always been a big fan of PJ Masks, watching the TV series fairly religiously, having a bit of a superhero crush on Owlette, and more recently becoming very fond of the accompanying toy range. Here at Real Mum Reviews, we have road tested a few of the toys from the PJ Masks range in recent months, including the Turbo Blast Racers and more recently the new Romeo’s Lab playset.
Until now, the majority of the range has had to be kept out of reach of Neve, who despite being desperate to play along with her older sister, is a little young to be around some of the smaller parts. Because of this I was really pleased to see a new addition to the PJ Masks range that I thought would be well suited to both of them, and something they could enjoy playing with together. We were keen to put it to the test!
About the Product
The PJ Masks Lights & Sounds Robot is pretty much exactly what it’s name would suggest – a talking, moving robot just like the one Romeo creates in the TV Series – it lights up, spins, and moves across the floor when his head is compressed. His face lights up with different expressions, and he spins in circles and moves backwards and forward across the floor; with each expression having a different accompanying sound. His arms are fully poseable, meaning they can be bent and moved into different shapes to create fun poses. Added to the other PJ Masks toys, the PJ Masks Lights & Sounds Robot is a fun way of encouraging children to act of fun missions and adventures with Cat Boy, Owlette and Gekko.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with the Robot, he is of course a good guy! 🙂 He was originally created as a cute accomplice to help Romeo infiltrate the PJ Masks headquarters, but when Romeo set him off on his challenge, he sets against his creator, and decides to buddy up with the PJ Masks instead!
First Impressions
The girls were both pretty excited when we unpacked the PJ Masks Lights & Sounds Robot. and Neve in particular started chanting “Robot” – something I didn’t even realise she could say! The Robot was fairly easy to unpackage from the box (yay to easy to unscrew fasteners!) and from a parent’s perspective, it is always great to learn that the 4 batteries required are included, and that I haven’t got to start hunting round the house for a screwdriver!
When turned on, the PJ Masks Lights & Sounds Robot springs to life fairly quickly, and both girls found it pretty amusing when he started to spin and appeared to run towards them! He is very easy to operate, simply pushing down on his head to activate, which makes his expression change, creates some fun sounds, and encourages him to spin or move.
The product is recommended for children aged 3 and above but it was very simple to play with, and as such, I felt that it was possibly more suited to Neve (who is nearly 2).
We have a variety of different floor surfaces in our house including carpet and wooden floors, and whilst the PJ Masks Lights & Sounds Robot moved better on the wooden floor, it was able to cope quite effectively on both. The girls also played with him quite a lot outside, and he moved perfectly fine on our patio paving too.
The poseable arms are a nice addition, meaning that they can be bent and moulded to create different shapes or poses.
Compared to other PJ Masks toys we have owned, this is probably the one with the least features or accessories, and as such, its appeal isn’t quite as strong – whilst the girls did enjoy playing with the Lights & Sounds Robot, I feel it will be one where the novelty could wear off quite quickly, and one that they may only go back to play with every once in a while. I would have loved to have seen a few more hidden features like secret compartments or the ability to stash stuff inside, as for £29.99 I do think the price is a little steep for what you get.
Despite this, we have owed the toy now for over a week and Neve in particular has enjoyed playing with it. As such, I do feel that the PJ Masks Lights & Sounds Robot is possibly best suited to younger PJ Masks fans.
