REVIEW – Tomy Paw Patrol Aquadoodle

REVIEW – Tomy Paw Patrol Aquadoodle

Erin LOVES Paw Patrol – to be honest I didn’t realise HOW much she loved it until I saw her rolling off all their names when she saw some Paw Patrol toys in a Christmas gift magazine. We were recently given the opportunity to road test the new Tomy Paw Patrol Aquadoodle and jumped at the chance – a bit different to other aquadoodle’s we have seen – this one comes with its very own Chase Police truck, so not only can children draw their own designs, but use the truck to create paw print patterns all over the mat.

About the Tomy Paw Patrol Aquadoodle

For anyone who isn’t familiar with the Aquadoodle concept – think mess free fun!!! I love craft, painting and drawing with Erin, but we have just had new carpets throughout our home, and the fear of getting paint or pens on a cream carpet just doesn’t bear thinking about! Aquadoodle is a great solution as it allows Erin to draw to her hearts content, without the risk of needing to claim on the home insurance lol 🙂

Children use the water filled Aquadoodle pen provided to draw over the large mat – which creates dark water lines where they press.  No mess, no ink and no stains! Their designs simply fade away as the water dries, meaning the mat can be reused over and over again.

The Tomy Paw Patrol Aquadoodle features Paw Patrol characters “hidden” under the design, so as they colour, the characters magically appear – children will love trying to track them down!

Using the Chase Police Truck provided you can also soak the base and run this over the mat, watching paw prints magically appear as you move it around.

When not in use, the Tomy Paw Patrol Aquadoodle folds away flat for easy storage, and is recommended for children aged 2 years plus.

The product has an RRP of £24.99

Our Experience

Erin’s reaction when she saw the box was pretty intense – PAW PATRRRROLLLLL!!! – she could not wait to open it!! 🙂

Erin has used an Aquadoodle before so was pretty familiar with the concept. The pen was a little different this time, in that it was actually filled up with water – where as ones I have used before simply had a little sponge that you soaked before replacing the cap. This new type made the pen last slightly longer before needing to be redampened again, which made my life a lot easier, although I did have to ask Erin not to try and open it a couple of times as she was trying to take off the cap!! 🙂

Erin enjoyed tracking down the hidden characters on the Paw Patrol Aquadoodle mat, and once she found one in a corner, she immediately tried the other corners to see if she could find some more. She shouted out the characters names with glee once she discovered them! 🙂 She also loved the paw prints that were created by the Chase Patrol Truck, and enjoyed moving it all over the mat to create the pattern.

I loved the fact that the mat folds away small and flat for easy storage, and is perfect for popping in your bag particularly if you need something discreet and mess free to entertain them when visiting family.

I would love it if the Paw Patrol Aquadoodle (or any aquadoodle in fact) came with a second pen, as life with a toddler can often result in items getting misplaced, and having a spare would prevent tears when they want to play with it but the pen has been posted somewhere or has fallen to the bottom of their toy box! 🙂

The product retails for around £25 which although not cheap, I feel is good value for money, particularly as the Truck can be played with individually and some paw patrol toys retail for between £5 and £10 alone. We have had the Paw Patrol Aquadoodle for just over a month now and Erin is still keen to get it out and unleash her creativity! 🙂

Tomy Paw Patrol Aquadoodle

Overall, this was a real hit, and would make a perfect gift for Paw Patrol fans.

Pros:

  • Mess free – no need to worry about getting pens or paint on your soft furnishings or carpets!
  • Transportable – folds away neatly into a small flat square that can easily be popped into your handbag or packed away for storage.
  • Includes Chase toy – which can be used separately to the mat.
  • Encourages creativity – allows the child to create as many designs as they wish and can be reused over and over again once the water has dried.

Cons:

  • Would prefer the pen to be a little less easy to open, as inquisitive hands often want to open it!
  • Not a con but a wish – would love to see a 2nd pen included, although it does appear that these can be purchased separately should you lose the original.
