AD – This post is in collaboration with Sterileeze

With the schools about to head back to school again, you’re going to want to know more about Sterileeze. Of all the things that fell into our ‘new normal’ family routine in 2020, sanitising our hands has definitely became one of them. Whether it is at the entrance to the school gates, before heading to the supermarket, when collecting a takeaway, or even before tucking into a snack; we’ve all been a lot more conscious about hand hygiene in 2020, both at home and whilst out and about.

Hand sanitiser has become a regular part of our day-to-day habits but unfortunately; it has also led to some unpleasant side effects. If you have sensitive skin you’ll know only too well what I am referring to – the uncomfortable sting as your rub it in to your hands, the sore red patches and the dry and itchy areas between your fingers. It can make your hands really sore. Neve and I both have eczema, so whilst we have worked hard to protect ourselves against viruses and bacteria, the constant reapplying of alcohol based hand gel has also really irritated our skin.

When I first heard about Sterileeze hand sanitiser – a water based hypochlorous, alcohol free hand sanitiser that kills 99.99% of viruses and bacteria without the irritating or dehydrating effects of alcohol, this sounded like something we would definitely want to explore. I was kindly sent some Sterileeze to test with our family and here’s what we thought!

Overcoming the Irritations of Traditional Hand Sanitiser

When it comes to our frustrations with traditional hand sanitisers it seems we are definitely not alone. Recent research by Steril-eeze and IPSOS found that 78% of adults are using hand sanitiser at least once a day, with 57% using it as much as 5 times a day. This usage is expected to increase as lockdown measures are eased this week and we spend more time outside the home for work, leisure, school, shopping, or simply when out and about.

The IPSOS study also showed that 63% of all adults (72% of women) who use hand sanitiser experience problems with the skin on their hands including dry and dehydrated skin, irritation, itching or red and sore skin.

It wont come as a surprise to learn therefore that 96% of those surveyed want a hand sanitiser that won’t irritate their skin and this is where Sterileeze can help!

What is Sterileeze?

Sterileeze is a water based (alcohol free hand sanitiser) that has been scientifically proven to be highly effective against viruses, bacteria and fungi whilst also being gentle and kind to your skin.

Sterileeze hand sanitiser contains a weak acid called Hypochlorous acid, that is similar is strength to a mild citrus juice and is also one of the most natural and effective biocides. It has long been used for wound care in hospitals and as a clinical disinfectant in many UK dentists and has recently been scientifically formulated for use as a hand sanitiser. Unlike alcohol based sanitisers which can frequently cause what is medically known as irritant contact dermatitis, it doesn’t dry or irritate skin, has no sting and is suitable for those with sensitive skin and children’s hands. It can even be used on surfaces too.

Manufactured by EM Pharma, a leading UK consumer healthcare company, Sterileeze has undergone vigorous independent scientific laboratory tests for quality, safety and regulatory compliance and is available to buy now from independent pharmacies nationwide as well as Amazon and Morrisons supermarkets.

How to use Sterileeze Hand Sanitiser

Sterileeze hand sanitiser comes in a variety of different bottle sizes including 50ml, 100ml and 250ml sizes, with the smaller bottles ideal for popping into your handbag or keeping in the car, whilst the larger bottles can be stored at home.

Unlike most hand sanitisers, Sterileeze is applied via a spray, not a gel. To apply you simply spray 4-6 sprays on to dry hands, before rubbing together (including between the fingers and wrists) and allowing to dry naturally.

The girls absolutely hate that sticky wet feeling of traditional hand sanitisers, but I found with Sterileeze, it was super quick and easy to apply and dried very quickly, without leaving a sticky residue. This, combined with the fact there was no strong scent that you normally find from alcohol based products, meant that it has been met with far less resistance and made this task as a Mum much easier!

Our Overall thoughts

Sterileeze has been a great option for our family and we have now all made the switch. Over the last few months since returning to school Neves’ hands had been really painful and sore. Switching to Sterileeze alcohol free hand sanitiser has given her hands chance to repair and improve without the constant reapplication of the alcohol that was causing her so much irritation.

It’s easy application, no sting quick drying spray has made it far easier for me to sanitise my children’s hands on the go, and makes it a great alternative for those with sensitive skin or who cant tolerate the alcohol based products.

With hand hygeine likely to be high on everyone’s agenda for quite some time to come, its great to finally find a product that protects your family from viruses and bacteria without any of the negative side effects we have previously experienced.
