Want to Make Your Home More Secure? Here’s How you Do That

This is a collaborative post

Want to make your home secure? This is the guide for you. Find out the steps you have to take to protect your home and your family today, so you can keep them safe for years to come.

Invest in a Solid Security Alarm

Firstly, invest in a security alarm. Buy a solid CCTV camera and have lights that turn on when motion is detected. This will make it easier to keep burglars at bay. After all, criminals work under the cover of darkness. If you take this away, you put them at risk. Buy motion-detection lights for inside and outside. Two-way communication is also a very good feature. If you suspect that someone is eyeing up your home, you can tell them that they are being watched. Remember, criminals are opportunists. They target homes that look easy. If you make it complex for them to break in, they probably won’t even try.

Increase Gate Security and Gate Height

Don’t give criminals an easy way to access your home.  It’s recommended that you get a garden gate that is the same height as your fence or hedge. Metal gates are way more difficult to scale when compared to wooden alternatives. On top of this,  they do not provide any cover for burglars. If you want to keep your gate in good condition then check the hinges on a regular basis. You also need to make sure that the bolt and the padlock are secure. If they’re not then now would be the best time for you to hire a locksmith.

Store Spare Keys Somewhere Safe

You may be tempted to leave a spare key under the doormat if you have kids who are always losing theirs. The problem with this is that it can give intruders easy access to your home. If you want to stop this from being an issue then simply invest in a key safe. The best thing about doing this is that you can keep your keys outside, as the casing is so secure that it cannot be hammered or sawed through. Visitors who try and gain access to your home simply have to type in the combination code.

Secure your Outbuilding as Well as your Property

An outdoor building is often an easy target. If you want to stop yours from being targeted then one thing you can do is invest in a solid door lock. You might also want to add an alarm if you store valuables in there. Don’t forget to include the contents of your shed or outbuilding within your insurance policy either. If you do then you may find that you end up losing out if your home should ever become a target for theft. If you are having a hard time securing your outbuilding or shed, then you can talk to your local locksmith for advice. They can help you to find out everything you need to know, and they can also talk you through the options that are available.
