Count with Peppa & Peppa Pig Smart Tablet Review

I love the preschool age. With my youngest daughter having just turned 3, she has reached the age where she is learning every single day, absorbing information like a sponge, and desperate to figure out how things work, take things apart and put them back together. She can now recognise different colours and sounds and is picking up a basic understanding of numbers and letters. It’s lovely to watch.

I absolutely love watching her learn and play, and when it comes to learning with some of her favourite characters, it always makes educational playtime that little bit more fun.

We were recently sent two products from the Trends UK Learn with Peppa range to show how they could make learning fun and interactive. Read on to see Neve’s thoughts on the products!

Peppa Pig Count with Peppa Toy

Peppa Pig Count with Peppa is a fun money box style game that helps teach little ones about numbers, counting, colours and shapes. Peppa comes with 10 large chunky colourful coins (numbered one to ten) to put inside her purse, which are chunky and easy to hold for small hands.

As children slot the coins into the Count with Peppa’s purse, she recognises each coin and counts with them up to 10. Her voice is the familiar dulcet tones of Peppa which Neve loved and recognised from the TV show, but handy for parents, there is a volume switch to select between high or low levels of sound, as well as an on/off switch on the side. There is also an auto shut off feature to preserve battery life if Count with Peppa isnt played with for 45 seconds.

There are two different modes of Count with Peppa game play (colours mode and numbers mode) and these are easy to flick between using the little slide button on the side.

When you first turn Count with Peppa on, Peppa asks you to learn together.

Little ones can then open the little purse flap to retrieve the coins. Neve found this easy to open without assistance, and was able to pull out all the different coins.

In numbers mode, Neve was able to insert the coins to hear her count. She pressed the left hand button, and Peppa asked her to insert a coin of a particular number into her purse. Neve is just starting to recognise the different numbers and so we worked together for her to find the right number and pop it into the slot. I thought this was a really fun way of trying to help children learn both the visual of what the numbers looked like as well as the word for them, with Peppa stating the number as the coin falls into her purse.

If you press the button again, Peppa will continue to ask different questions and says encouraging phrases to reward them when they get it right. Importantly if they do get it wrong, Peppa simply asks another question, rather than making too much of a big deal of making a mistake.

The second mode on the Count with Peppa toy is Colours mode, and in this mode, Neve was asked to find the coin of a particular colour, or the coin with flowers on it. This one Neve was more confident with, and seemed to do this much quicker, getting quite chuffed with herself when she got it right first time.

Finally, the right hand button on Count with Peppa plays one of 3 different catchy songs, including the recogniseable theme tune. Neve really liked dancing to these.

Count with Peppa requires 2 x AA batteries and comes with demo batteries supplied. She has been a real hit with Neve, and offers two distinct fun yet educational games to play.

Peppa’s Smart Tablet

Next up from Trends UK Learn with Peppa range was Peppa’s Smart Tablet and as a family that has iPads and tablets at home, Neve was particuarly excited about this one. It is a large chunky tablet device which even has its very own removeable bumper – ideal for something that is likely to get dropped and knocked around a fair bit, but also made it feel a bit more “authentic” with a case on just like we have on our other devices at home.

Peppa’s Smart Tablet requires 3 AAA batteries which need to be added to the base with a small screwdriver.

There are six different games to play and explore on the tablet and a large power button to turn it on and off.

To play the games, you simply need to press on any image to discover the name of the sound.

In the Instrument zone, Neve could press once to hear the sound that the instrument plays and again for the colour of the instrument e.g. yellow saxophone.

In Zone 2 – she could press once for the number and again for the shape, Zone 3 – press once for the phonetic letter sound and again for the letter name, Zone 4 – press to state the different colours of the puddles, and in Zone 5 – press on the character to hear their voices and state their names. You can also press the music symbols at any time to hear some random funny sounds – some of which really made Neve giggle.

Thankfully the volume can be turned up and down on Peppa’s Smart Tablet as it does start off quite loud, it also has an auto shut off, which means you may quite reguarly hear Peppa saying Goodbye as she puts the tablet to sleep.

When playing with Neve, we pressed on Peppa to hear her ask a question e.g. touch the yellow instrument, touch the blue puddle, which character makes this noise? etc. Neve really enjoyed this, and you could see her looking quite proud of herself as she was able to work her way around the tablet and press on the right answers. The screen of the tablet is flat meaning buttons are easy to press for little hands.

I loved the way that Peppa’s Smart Tablet could be played with alone or with a grown up, and even as ‘free play’ where Neve just pressed random buttons, she was still being taught relevant information such as colours and names, all of which were educational yet fun.

I think both of these Learn with Peppa toys are a great option if you are looking for interactive and educational gifts for pre-schoolers that make learning fun. If you have a Peppa fan at home these are sure to be a big hit.
