Our Annual Halloween Party – 2018
Each year the girls look forward to Halloween almost as much as Christmas. Whilst we don’t generally go trick or treating as a family, we do always have a Halloween party with the children every single year without fail, and luckily for me, my sister volunteers to host! The girls get dressed in their favourite spooky Halloween outfits, and we head off to see their cousins and friends for some fun Halloween themed food, games and activities.
Each year we get out Halloween Party supplies from Party Pieces, who offer a huge range of party tableware, decorations and games to choose from to suit every kind of theme, and have a variety of different Halloween ranges to choose from. Some of the Halloween ranges are more child friendly than others with more colourful (and slightly less intimidated) designs, which are ideal if you are planning a party for mixed age groups, or where the younger ones are likely to get a bit scared by some of the more authentic designs!
Here’s a little insight into this years Party theme! 🙂
The Tableware
For our table we opted for a plain black plastic table covering with these fab contrasting Skull and Cat Paper Plates and Napkins. These designs were ideal – Halloween themed without being too intimidating for the younger ones including Neve, and with plenty of room for all their yummy treats.
A sprinkle of pumpkin confetti really added to the overall table effect and we chose to use neon purple and orange cutlery with lime green cups (the colour of slime of course!) which looked fantastic.
This easy to construct Spider’s web cake stand was the perfect was to showcase all the yummy cakes my sister had bought, with the Halloween picks to add a bit of a spooky feel.
The Decorations
One of the most important part of hosting a Halloween party is having some decorations to make the house feel a little more spooky. This GINORMOUS spider decoration from Party Pieces was pretty impressive, and definitely became a bit of a talking point! With a honeycomb fold out body and long tinsel legs which can be hung in a variety of different directions, we had ours hanging down over the hallway and looking down on the children below!!!
Party Pieces have a wide range of Halloween themed balloons but these Bat Confetti Balloons were really cute, with tiny little bats floating around inside – even better when filled with helium.
As we had lots of adults at our party too, it was only fair that we had some practical decorations too – and this Coffin Drinks Cooler not only looked great but served a very useful purpose too. Filled with ice, this giant coffin became the first point of call for our drinks on the night!
The Games
No party is complete without some fun games to play, and Party Pieces didn’t dissapoint there either. This Pin the spider on the web game was a real bargain, and although a very simple concept, the children had lots of fun seeing who could place their spider stickers as close as possible to the centre of the web. With a cardboard blindfold which can be adjusted to suit every head size, this game was a real hit with all ages from 2 – 7.
The kids absolutely love piniatas, but after having one the first year that seemed to take an eternity to pop open, we opted for this Vampire Coffin piniata instead. Rather than bashing to release the sweets and treats hidden inside, children take it in turns to pull one of the ribbons that hang from the base. Pick the right one, and the flap will open and release the contents. In our case it was unfortunately on of the earlier ribbons that release the sweets inside, so a little bit of an anti climax, although once the treats were scattered across the floor the children forgot about it pretty damn quickly!! 🙂
This year, for the first year ever we also decided to host a Best Dressed Competition, with the winner who was voted the winner receiving this fab skeleton statue. Due to protecting the privacy of other children at the party, I can’t share the photo of the winner, however I can say that her Day of the Dead outfit was fantastic, and that her little face when she won was absolutely heart melting. She apparently went to bed with her trophy that night, so it really did make her day!
The Party Boxes
When the children left after a full evening of halloween festivities, we gave each of them a little Halloween food boxes filled with some cake, sweets and Halloween Party favours. The bag of 72 plastic party bag toys from Party Pieces had plenty to go around, and were a great way of keeping the cost down – as party bag contents can really add up!
Overall, our Halloween was a big hit with all the children who attended (all 15 of them!!) and they all went hope very tired and very happy!! A huge thanks to Party Pieces who as always made our party a huge success.
