REVIEW – Baby Bjorn High Chair

Introducing the Baby Bjorn High Chair

We recently started our weaning journey with Neve, which is for me, one of the most exciting yet terrifying milestones in a child’s life! When Erin was little, we had a massive high chair with a padded back and a five point harness, which took up most of our living room. Whilst it was great in the beginning when it was new and clean, it inevitably got covered in food – the straps became an almost permanent shade of yellow, and it became pretty impossible to clean. This time around, I was after a high chair that was a little more practical, and a less invasive and modern design.

We were given the opportunity to review the Baby Bjorn High Chair, which on paper ticked all of my boxes – ergonomic, small and stylish, with an easy to clean wipe down surface and no straps anywhere to be seen. Over the last few weeks, we have certainly put it through its paces, whilst Neve slowly attempts to get her head around the fact that I am not trying to poison her!

First Impressions of the Baby Bjorn High Chair:

When the high chair arrived I was really impressed with the way it looks. The simple yet stylish design is fantastic. We opted for the Mint colour, which is a beautiful pale turquoise shade. The seat is moulded and sleek, with a removable tray for easy cleaning.

Now normally when any new product arrives, I turn to my other half for construction. Flat pack furniture is NOT my strong point. This chair however was VERY easy to put together when first taken out of the box. I, the most DIY challenged Mother known to man, put this together completely unaided (yay me!) as the legs simply click into place.

Neve sits very upright and seems very comfortable in the chair. At first, the prospect of no straps or restraints can seem a little strange, but at no point since using it have I been concerned for her safety in the chair, as once the table is clicked into place, she is safe and securely positioned in the seat.

Baby Bjorn High Chair

I have found some highchairs a bit  of a nightmare to get the baby in and out of, particularly when battling to get straps and clips around un-cooperating arms.  The Baby Bjorn High chair has quite an innovative design, in that the table folds downwards so that your child can be put in from the side and not from above. The dial on the table takes a little bit of getting used to, as you need to turn it to move table up and down whilst holding your baby, but once you are used to it it becomes pretty second nature.

The tray also has three different positions, so you can pull the tray in and out (using the red button underneath), making sure that your baby is not too lose or to tight against the surface.

The Baby Bjorn High Chair is VERY easy to clean. With no straps at all to capture dirt and grime, I can simply wipe over the entire chair and table with antibacterial spray, and be confident that there is no hidden food lurking anywhere away from the obvious surfaces. For VERY messy dishes (we gave her spaghetti the other day!), we can simply unclip the entire white tray and take it to the sink to wash down. This is a MASSIVE benefit, and my favourite element of the chair.

Portability

With the Baby Bjorn High Chair being so small, it is much more portable than many of the highchairs on the market. It also folds down virtually flat, meaning we are able to pop it in the boot when we go to the grandparents for dinner. The legs are also completely removable if required, meaning that if we were taking it on holiday or on a journey with a jam packed car, there would still be room to fit it in with limited space.

An obvious thing to mention here is price, as obviously Baby Bjorn Highchair is not a budget item. With an RRP of £150-180, there are obviously cheaper high chairs on the market. However, as with all designer baby items, there is an element of getting what you pay for. For me, the easy clean and transportable nature of this chair are some massive positives, and I LOVE the way it looks in our home, compared to our old chair which I began to despise the sight of!

Baby Bjorn High Chair Folded

Overall, the Baby Bjorn High Chair has been a big hit in our household, and Neve is as happy as larry. Now, if only Baby Bjorn could encourage her to open her mouth a little wider and I’d be set for life!

Pros:

  • Modern attractive design
  • Very easy to clean
  • No dirty straps
  • Easy to put together
  • Folds down flat so can be taken to relatives if required.

Cons:

  • It is a little on the low side compared to our table in lounge, and unlike some other chairs the leg height is not adjustable.
  • Some parents may feel a tad uncomfortable with the fact there is no strap restraint – that said, Neve always seemed very content and secure in the seat.
  • May seem expensive however can be used for a long time (from 6 months to approx. 3 years)

This was a lovely chair! I love the design of it. 😀 And she’s so adorable in the photos enjoying her new chair! 😀
Personally, I have always loved the Tripp Trapp chair from Stokke, but this looks like a good chair too! 😀
