REVIEW – PJ Masks Turbo Blast Racers
Erin is a huge fan of PJ Masks, and it has become a regular TV choice for Erin whilst she is eating her breakfast before school in the mornings! I can definitely see the appeal, just in the way banana man used to change into a superhero back in the 80’s (showing my age here!), PJ Masks features three 6 year old children Connor, Amaya and Greg who lead relatively normal lives by day, but by night become Catboy, Owlette and Gekko. These three masked crusaders are the PJ Masks team who fight crime by night time; going on fun adventures, completing missions, defeating criminals and solving mysteries!
The villain that Erin secretly loves to hate is Romeo – a genius inventor who is continually attempting to take over the world from his mobile laboratory!
A new range of toys have recently launched to accompany the series – the PJ Masks Turbo Blast Racers, and we were sent two of the range to try out. Here’s what we thought.
About the Product
Suitable for children aged 3 and above, the PJ Masks Turbo Blast Racers retail at £14.99 each.
Each of the PJ Masks Turbo Blast racers are a large and chunky design, each coming with one 3-inch PJ Masks Character Figure! Each character is dressed in an exclusive Turbo Blast outfit equipped with matching racing helmet! Children will love trying to collect all the characters including Cat-Car, Owl Glider and Gekko-Mobile (each sold separately).
Our Experience
We were sent two of the PJ Masks Turbo Blast Racers – The Gekko Mobile and Romeo’s Lab. Erin was very quick to help me rip the boxes open and pull out the characters inside.
The vehicles are quite large in size, which had instant appeal to Erin, and the 3 inch tall characters are fully poseable, meaning that their arms and legs can be moved to different positions as your child acts out a scene. I particularly liked the different material (almost rubber like fabric) on Romeo’s lab coat, making it quite tactile and a bit different from other mini characters.
The PJ Masks Turbo Blast Racers are chunky yet lightweight, making them perfect for little hands. The vehicles themselves have various points where the characters can be slotted into place, meaning they won’t fall and didn’t get catapulted out the vehicles as Erin was racing them across our wooden floors at high speed!! 🙂
Sometimes Erin struggled to clip the characters securely into place, but with a little assistance she was able to move the characters around fairly easily.
The characters aren’t limited to one particular vehicle, so if you have more than one you can swap and interchange the characters (standing up) as you see fit. I particularly liked the way there was a special hole in the Gekko Mobile for his tail to poke through when he sat down in the driver’s seat!
The best part of the PJ Masks Turbo Blast Racers for me was that there were no gimmicks, no sounds or no fancy technical bits that needed parent interaction – they were ready to go straight out the box and perfect for simple creative play. Erin loves nothing more than acting out scenes from her imagination, and the Blast Racers enabled her to do just that.
At £14.99, there are obviously some cheaper vehicle based toys on the market and some may prefer a toy with a few more interactive features, however from Erin’s perspective, seeing her favourite characters come to life in the comfort of her living room made them a huge hit in this house!
