I am forever losing things. All the bleedin’ time. Literally every other day I misplace one of my possessions, whether it be my phone, my purse or my car keys.

Before the “find my iPhone” feature was introduced I used to spend many an hour hunting aimlessly round my house for my phone, which inevitably would be on silent (they always are). It is probably a weekly occurance now that I get out the iPad, open up the app, and use the sound alert function to direct me back to my phone, which is usually under a pillow or has slipped down the side of the sofa. It could’ve quite literally taken me hours to locate it without some help.

Unfortunately, keys don’t have the same function.

I have had to cancel meeting my friends on numerous occasions because I cannot find my keys, only to find them somewhere ridiculous a few hours later (once I found them four hours later in the peg bag of all places!). Add into the equation a toddler who likes to hide things for entertainment purposes (or put them ‘somewhere safe’) and we have all kinds of fun!

When I was asked if I wanted to review Xupo, a Bluetooth tracker that can be attached to pretty much anything, this sounded like something I needed in my life! Appearing on Dragon’s Den in January, it appears that the Dragons also saw the potential in the idea too, with the Scottish creators securing an £100,000 investment from Peter Jones.

The Product

The Xupo Bluetooth Tracker provides a solution to an age-old problem – locating the personal items that can be difficult to find on a regular basis: keys, phones, wallets, purses, bags – even family pets!

The coin-sized item locator communicates with a smartphone app via a Bluetooth Smart™ sensor to find misplaced items. It retails at just £19.99 – available to purchase HERE.

Our Experience

The Xupo Bluetooth tracker comes in a small but perfectly formed package. Inside you will find your small circular disk shaped tracker, and some basic instructions to get started. The Bluetooth tracker is about the same size as a 2 penny piece, with a small hole enabling it to be attached to a keyring, ribbon or thread as required. It is fairly discreet and inoffensive to look at, so doesn’t look out of place on my keyring.

The instructions are VERY simple and easy to follow and the Xupo takes literally minutes to set up. As an iPhone user, I simply downloaded the Xupo app to my phone before linking the device via Bluetooth. Once linked and passcode protected, the Xupo was ready to use.

I attached the xupo to my car keys, meaning that next time I misplace them in the house I can use the Xupo app to locate them.

To locate the Xupo, I simply open the app, click on the large “tap to find your Xupo” button and an audible sound is played. The volume is not hugely loud, but loud enough that you would hear it if in the same room. The Xupo is out of range when upstairs (and the keys downstairs), but walk around the house and when within a closer proximity it will pick it will specify that the keys are nearby. Consider it a slightly more sophisticated version of ‘hot and cold’!

At £19.99 I think this little gizmo is reasonably good value, especially if you are particularly good at losing things like me. The app allows you to name your Xupo, so presumably you could have a few on your prize possessions should you wish. I love the idea that you could attach one to your cats collar too – perfect if you have one that always gets locked in the garage or goes wondering at night!

In the week I have had the Xupo, I have already had a genuine need to use it twice! Lol 🙂 – far better than wasting my life turning my house upside down!
