Scruff-a-Luv Friends Rescue Pet REVIEW

If you’re not familiar with Scruff-a-Luv’s, then quite frankly, where have you been?? These adorable toys represent unloved and abandoned pets that are found curled up in a little ball. In order to bring them back to life and reveal their inner cute and fluffy character, they are in need of a good wash and a whole lot of love – that’s where the children come in!

We were sent one of the new Scuff-a-Luv’s Friends (Furry Friends Forever) to review with the girls, and having had a couple of Scruff-a-Luv products before, they were both super keen to get the box opened and start nurturing their character to life!

A slight change from previous editions, Scruff-a-Luvs Friends come with unique rainbow ombre fur and are one of three new varieties, either a cat, puppy or pony. You can’t tell what you have until you place it into the water and the character is revealed. The surprise element of Scuff-a-Luv Friends makes it really exciting for young children, with the anticipation of finding out which of the three characters they have collected!

Inside our Scuff-a-Luv Friends box, we discovered our scuff-a-luv character – in our case a small purple and pink round ball of fur. At this stage, it was virtually impossible to identify what mystery animal the girls were going to reveal. There is also a small heart shaped hair clip (which children can wear too if they wish!) a collar and heart name tag and a small heart shaped comb, the latter of which will be needed later for the girls to brush, comb and pamper their Scruff-a-Luv Friends to her former glory.

In order to reveal which Scuff-a-Luv Friends character is inside, you need to give her a warm bath. This can be done in a bucket of water, in the bath tub, or as we did, with a small amount of warm water in the sink. You can add a bit of shampoo if you wish but we chose not to do this.

When you pop the Scuff-a-Luv Friends into the water and gently rub, she unfolds and opens up so you can see what character you have inside. We soon revealed that we had the puppy, and she was super cute (although I think Erin was secretly gutted not to find a pony as she is a bit horse obsessed at the moment!)

After a few minutes when the entire body is folder out and clean and you have rubbed and detangled some of the fur with water, you can remove from the sink and towel dry, attempting to dry off and fluff as you do so.

Scruff-a-Luv Friends

By far the girl’s favourite part of the Scruff-a-Luv Friends was using the hairdryer to continue to dry and fluff up their puppy. Its worth saying here that in order to really make it fluff up it does take quite a while, and the girls took it in turns to use the heart shaped comb as we dried to style, comb and brush through their hair, detangling any bits that were still a bit wet or matted in parts.

I’ve seen lots of comments before from people saying that their Scuff-a-Luv’s look nothing like they do in the pictures, and I think the key is to towel dry as much as possible before you get the hair dryer out. It does take a while to get the full fluffy effect to arrive, but patience is a virtue, and with a bit of help from me, the girls were soon looking at a very fluffy and cute puppy!

The Scruff-a-Luv Friends puppy comes with her very own collar and name tag and Neve was so happy to pop on her collar and officially make our Puppy a member of the family.

Scruff-a-Luv Friends

Once the puppy is given a name, the girls were able to use the Adoption certificate supplied to complete with their details and the name they have chosen to call their Scruff-a-Luv Friends.

Neve also loved putting in the little heart shaped hair clip, which was easy enough to do unassisted even with her little hands!

Overall the girls absolutely loved the Scruff-a-Luv Friends experience, and our puppy is now much loved and cuddled by Neve!

Pros

Fun experience to reveal and wash / care for, and makes a fun reveal to find out which character you have.

Girls loved blowdrying and combing his hair

Cons

Although fluffy, it does take a lot of effort in order to make her as fluffy as in the pictures. Definitely towel dry throughly and rub to fluff before just using the hair dryer otherwise it takes an AGE.

Friends Scruff-a-Luv’s are available to purchase from The Entertainer and retail at £20.
