My youngest daughter is nearly four and is pretty much doll obsessed. She loves acting out little scenes with her dolls, pretending to feed them, and getting her baby dressed and ready for bed. We had been looking for a baby dolls bathtub, so when we were offered the opportunity to review the BABY Born Bathtub, I knew this would be right up her street, giving her the opportunity to act out bath time scenes as part of her doll’s bedtime routine, pretending to wash her hair before snuggling her up in a towel, drying her and getting her in her PJs.

The BABY Born bath tub is a large interactive baby dolls bath tub with rainbow lights and sound effects, which even has a working shower which can be triggered when the bath tub is full. It comes with a super cute rubber duck accessory (which squirt water!) and is the perfect size for BABY born dolls such as the BABY Born Interactive doll, or other brand dolls up to 43cm in size.

Neve in particular aged 3 was chuffed to bits when she clapped sight of the BABY born bathtub as I unpacked it from the box – I actually heard her say “Daddy come look, I’ve seen something amazing!” when she spotted it in our hallway. She was very keen to get involved!

To use the Baby Born bathtub, first you should make sure you switch from Try me mode to ON on the bottom of the bath. You then can fill with water. There is a minimum and maximum fill line to help you ensure you use the right amount of water. Too little water and the shower will not work, and too much and the bath is likely to overflow then the doll is placed into the water.

When the large silver button on the front of the toy baby bathtub is pressed, music starts including the BABY Born theme song which you will definitely recognise from the adverts, as well as some relaxing bath time songs.

The bottom of the Baby Born bath tub also lights up with 3 circle rainbow colours, which glow through the sides of the plastic bath tub when the lighting in the room is slightly dimmed.

Neve really enjoyed popping her baby into the BABY born bath tub, and it makes a great toy for fun interactive water play, however, I have to say that from my perspective at least, the shower was a little disappointing.

The shower comes with a little stand so it can be slotted into place when not being used. The girls did need a bit of help with this as it has to be in exactly the right position to slot in.

The shower has a very small shower tube so it can only be pulled a short distance away from the bath, and I was expecting it to spray a bit like a regular shower when the button was pressed. Unfortunately it didn’t, or if it did, it was only did so for a few seconds before it changed to more of a dribble. At first I thought this may have been due to me using the batteries that came with the product, however even when changed for a fresh set, the spray effect didn’t really improve. I made sure the water was to the fill line, but it was definitely more of a trickle than a full spray. One of our more successful spray pictures is shown below.

Whilst it wasn’t quite what I expected, the girls still absolutely loved it, being fascinated about the fact water could come out and they enjoyed sprinkling it over their babies head. Be warned, unless they hold it upright the water does tend to go everywhere, so it would be sensible to have a towel or something underneath to collect any spills.

I think the BABY born bath tub is great for nurturing role play, and would make a great gift for a child expecting a younger sibling or who likes to take on the role of ‘Mum’ during playtime. Neve really enjoyed getting her BABY Born completely covered in water before scooping her up and placing her in the towel to get her dry.

Baby Born Shower

Overall the BABY Born bathtub is a cute little product for doll fans but for the price I would’ve liked to see a slightly better functioning shower, That said, the write up by Zapf Creation does clearly say pour not spray when describing the shower, so maybe I was expecting a little too much of a toy shower! It’s also worth noting that the BABY Born bath tub can’t be used in the actual bath due to the batteries included. This took a little while for my daughter to understand! If you are looking for a cute baby doll bathtub this is really cute and we loved the pastel colours too.

The BABY Born Bathtub retails at £39.99. You can learn more about the product here.
